This is how it happens: I adopt an album as my favorite for the month, play it everyday, get sick of it, and move on. It's not hard to forget what I was listening to two months ago, let alone a year. Combined with hearing news of new albums and revisiting old favorites, here are some albums I forgot that I was awaiting.
7. Paramore
My love for Paramore has not quit since it started in elementary school. This love has matured with their self-titled album that graced us in 2013 (thinking about how the time has passed makes me shiver). "Ain't It Fun" and "Still Into You" came out in 2013? I'm ready for Hayley Williams' dazzling vocals and the pop-punk-for-adults content in their fifth album. The band is reportedly working on it as we speak, so at least we can relax in relief.
6. Echosmith
Personally, I am in desperate need for the heavily optimistic California vibes of Echosmith, and as it turns out, the second album is being finished right now. My mood is dragging without the pure and sweet vocals of frontwoman Sydney Sierota. Reminiscing with "Talking Dreams" isn't cutting it anymore. Neither is the acoustic album. Alas, I will wait not-so-patiently for some jams to make the winter feel like summer.
5. HAIM
Claiming to be working tirelessly to make this album perfect, sister trio HAIM is reportedly releasing in the fall, and I hope they're staying true to their word. My desperation to be in an all-girl rock band is waning, and it's because they haven't been around to remind me of my dashed dreams. Their first full-length album wasn't released until they thought it was perfect, and apparently the second is no exception, so at least we have that sentiment to keep us calm.
4. Bon Iver
We know that Bon Iver's second album is probably ready to be released soon because he premiered two new songs this month. Despite this, there's no release date. I'm almost sure this album will counter-act any optimistic feelings Echosmith's upcoming album will give me. I cannot maintain a smile when "For Emma, Forever Ago" is playing, so here's to a heart-wrenching holiday season.
3. John Mayer
So we know John Mayer is playing the Roots Picnic Festival this October (alongside Echosmith), but when is he putting out new music? Mayer is yet another artist who hasn't graced us since 2013. Is he too busy dating women that he'll no doubt expose by talking about their sex life to an journalist? Or is that where his new material comes from? I guess touring with the Grateful Dead takes you away from the studio a bit, so I'll give him a pass this time.
2. Childish Gambino
Until recently, I thought "Because the Internet" was the last full-length album we were going to get from Gambino. Donald Glover loves to jump around from actor to writer to rapper to comedian so I thought I had seen the coffin close on his rap career. Turns out he's been recording with an orchestra and he's debuting his new album "Pharos" at performances in the Joshua Tree National Park in California. He released this information through a mysterious app of the same name, so he's staying true to his elusive manner. I guess there's some comfort in that.
1. Lorde
Alright, so we got the single "Magnets," but that was on Disclosure's album. We haven't gotten a full-length album from her since 2013's "Pure Heroine," and in all honesty, this wait has felt the longest in comparison to the other albums on the list. She obviously doesn't care about (or need) the momentum of her last album's success as a selling point for new material. Lorde has recently posted photos of herself "in the studio," so fingers crossed for a release super duper soon?
