6 Types of People We've All Encountered on Yik Yak

As a college student, sometimes we need to waste time between classes, stay awake in class or even entertain our brains before we go to sleep. For all of the problems we solve them with "Yik Yak." So, here is a list of five types of people you'll find on yik yak.

1. The Comedians

These are the people we all love. They give us life when the teacher is boring us to death and brighten our day when things may not be the best. These are the people all of us come to see on Yik Yak. If not for the comedians Yik Yak would be dead. (Example: "Thank you student loans for getting me through university. I don't think I can ever repay you.")

2. The Advice Seekers

Sometimes it's better to ask a stranger for advice because it is usually unbiased. The advise seekers are your average guys or girls who haven't had as much experience as some of us who have been in college a little longer and wants some words of wisdom or as close as they can get to them. They have either gotten no help from their friends or find their situation too embarrassing or inappropriate to even consider asking someone in person.

3. The Desperate

These are the people that feel that they have tried and failed to find a decent significant other one too many times in the real world so now they have come to their last resort of looking for a random stranger who replies to a Yik Yak post. While it is possible that you may meet "the one" (a term I feel is over rated), you are searching through a pile of "trolls" (if you don't know what that is keep reading), sex crazed people and emotional wrecks (no offense we all have our moments). For everyone that may fall under this category be sure to read the next few sentences even if you don't finish the article. There is someone out there for you. You don't have to use Yik Yak to find them. Stick with the old fashioned way of meeting people, by introducing yourself and talking to them in person. It's much more rewarding and it reduces the amount of surprises.

4. The Hormones

These are the people who only want sex. They verify the saying "The freaks come out at night" (For anyone new to Yik Yak, Yik Yak is like HBO; it has it's comedy in the day but gets X-rated after dark so proceed with caution). These people will post over and over hoping for someone to reply and meet up with them for sex. I don't know how successful they are in that approach, but I would think not too successful. At most they get a lot of comments...until they find out that everyone commenting are the same gender, then there's an awkward silence.

5. The Venter

Sometimes we want to get something off our chest, but don't want any of our friends to know about our situation. The venter says what he/she has to say and maybe replies to a few comments left under the post to clarify his/her perspective in further detail. They usually don't care about other people's opinion (unlike the advice seeker) and have no interest in anything further than releasing a burden they are carrying.

6. The Troll

These are, as some may put it, everything that's wrong with the world. These people have no boundaries in what they do to annoy, hurt, or anger others. They will do things such as having a conversation with someone pretending to be the opposite gender, say the most stupid and insulting things, and or ask for other social media information so they can repost it on Yik Yak along with negative captions or comments. To "troll' is to attempt to hurt or upset someone for amusement.

These are the types of Yik Yaks that I have encountered on Yik Yak. I'm sure there are a number of others.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
