You definitely think you've got it all figured out. You've got a game plan for the next four years of getting your work done, getting involved, and going to lots of parties. The first few weeks of college fly by and one day you wake up to a sore throat, piles of dirty laundry, nothing to eat and you forgot it was your sister's birthday. Everything is suddenly terrible and so you turn to the one person you can always seem to count on: your mom.
1. Laundry
How much detergent is too much?? What brand do I use at home?? Do I really need to separate my colors from my whites?? How long can I go without washing this pair of jeans before someone notices??
2. Cooking
You saunter down to the dining hall and there is the same ol' burgers and the same ol' pizza and the same ol' salads from yesterdays menu. You're absolutely starving and everything in front of you is out of the question. Time to call up mom and ask her what the easiest most affordable thing is that you can make in under ten minutes in a dorm room.
3. Your Health
"Hey mom, I'm going to be coming home this weekend."
"Is your nose stuffy?? You sound sick, are you getting sick?? I'll make you a doctor's appointment for this weekend."
"Okay, love you too."
4. Cleaning
Some of us grew up doing chores our entire lives. Some of us did not and that's perfectly fine; until you have people over in your dorm room and they comment on the amount of dust cumulating on those textbooks you haven't bothered touching yet. You remember seeing mom cut up an old t-shirt and spray pledge on absolutely every surface and so you get to it too.
5. Transportation
You don't have your car available at your fingertips anymore, it's sitting at home in the garage. Lyft and Uber are using up the money you don't have and so there you again calling mom because how else are you going to go shopping with that money you don't have??
6. Remembering General Things
It's whose birthday today?? When is my doctor's appointment?? When was that thing I was telling you about?? Where did I put my keys??
Literally to moms everywhere, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Even if you think we don't need you, we need you.
