6 Things We Never Had To Worry About When We Were Younger

I think everyone can agree that being a child was so much easier. The only thing you had to worry about was making sure you had pants on, and even with that, your parents had your back. Being a college student, there are so many other responsibilities you have besides making sure you're wearing pants, no matter how bad we wish that's all we had to worry about. Here are some of the thousands of responsibilities that us college students have to worry about.

1. So much homework that it's not even possible to finish it all in the time asked.

Our professors don't understand us. They went through college, yeah, but they act like they haven't. First, they will assign a research paper, and you think "oh that's not that bad," but before you know it, you have a debate, six other homework assignments, and he's checking your notebook to make sure you're actually taking notes in class AND this all needs to be done within the week. Keep in mind this is just one class; this also happens in the other five classes you're taking too. Honestly, these professors act like they are being paid to make your life a living hell.

2. Your ex-boyfriend.

There are two different paths this one could be. First, he doesn't understand that you guys go to different colleges and he's still desperately in love with you, but you can't be bothered. You're trying to live your life and have fun in college. Second, he's broken your heart. You still love him more than anything, but he's moved on to his new girl, giving you no time to get over him. Either option sucks. When we were younger, the only boy we had to worry about was the one that stole our mid-day snack and called our "boyfriend" but we were over it within a week and moved on to the next boy.

3. Your future plans.

Do I want to go to graduate school? And if I do, then what for? Also, how am I paying for said grad school? After grad school, do I want to get married? Have children? When we were younger, NONE of this mattered.

4. Getting a job and having to pay for stuff on your own.

Getting a job is one of the worst things in the world if it's not doing something that you love. College jobs include working in retail or working at the nearest food joint. There are also those few times when you get a babysitting job, but now that you're in college that doesn't happen very often. The only job we are excited for is the job we get after grad school when we are finally settled in with what we want to do with our lives.

5. People leaving your life.

When we were little, we went to school, we saw the same friends that we see every other day at school, and we go home to the same people we see everyday. All of us are together in school and if someone does leave your school, it's not a big deal because you're young enough that, honestly, you probably won't remember. Now people walk out of our lives all the time. You have your main friends, but your other "friends" are always coming and going.

6. The constant pressure to do well in everything.

Maybe it's just me, but I always have this constant pressure on me to do well in not only school, but life in general as well. It's not even pressure from anyone else; this pressure is there because you're putting it on yourself. You want to do well in school, you want the hottest guy, you want to be able and have a good time, and you want that perfect internship. Sure there are pressures from your parents, but the pressure you put on yourself is 100x worse.

So to those youngings who won't be reading this, just know we are all jealous of you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
