6 Things We All Take For Granted
Lauren Yandow

We live in a world where we are constantly worried about what other people will think of us, or living up to the expectations of what our parents want. Our generation relies heavily on our devices and is influenced by the negativity and hate portrayed by the media. Our thoughts, opinions, and beliefs are being controlled by what we watch and read everyday. A change needs to happen immediately. We need to take a step back and focus more on what we might take for granted in our own lives. Although it may change from person to person, I believe that we will all live in a better place once we stop focusing on the negativity and more on these six aspects.

1. Family.

Family of course comes first. After all, they were the ones who raised you and made you into the person you are today. If you are faced with an obstacle, these people will help you get through the challenging time. They will be with you every step of the way, through the good and bad. Listen to their advice because you never know when you may need it in the future. Take time out of your day for them. In the end, they will always be the ones waiting for you with open arms.

2. Friends.

Like your family, these are the people who will always have your back. Whether you've had a bad day or just need someone to talk to, they will always be there for you. There are days when I just need to hear their voice or laugh with them. They could either be right down the hall from you in your dorm or miles away in another state, but you can always count on your friends being there for you. Although you may know they are always there, you sometimes forget the impact your friends have on your life.

3. Education.

This may sound silly, but we sometimes forget the power of education. From kindergarten all the way up to college you are gaining knowledge, which will lead you to become successful later on in life. We have all had those mornings when we pretended to be sick because we didn't want to go to school that day. No matter how many hours you have spent in the library working on a term paper, your hard work will pay off in the end. Appreciate education and learning, because there are so many people in the world who don't have the ability to go to school.

4. Health.

I will admit that I can be lazy, and I often enjoy sitting in bed watching Netflix with a bar of chocolate. On the other hand, I know the importance of being active and the benefits of having a balanced diet. I am grateful to have three meals per day and have the ability to get out of bed each morning ready for what's to come. Some people aren't as fortunate and struggle with their health in their everyday lives. My advice for you is to live a healthy lifestyle, but it's ok to treat yo 'self every once in a while!

5. Home.

Home is where the heart is. Whenever I come home from college, it is always the best feeling to come home to a warm house filled with people I love. We sometimes take for granted that we can wake up everyday in the comfort of our own beds, instead of on the street. Or the fact that after a long day of work, you can kick back in your favorite recliner to watch the game on TV.

6. Time.

You never know when your life could be cut short. No one can predict how much longer you will be on this earth. Time is precious. Why let it go to waste? Get out and do something that's on your bucket list, or visit someone you haven't seen in a while. You never know when the next opportunity will come to you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
