6 Things I Hope My Dog knows

I don't see you every day, but I definitely think about you every day.

Leaving your dog behind as you go away to school is one of life's cruelest circumstances. Who else is supposed to make you smile like your dog does? Who else is supposed to be as annoyingly cute? I mean, let's face it, boys are more often just annoying and completely lack the cuteness.

To my dog, even though I have had to leave behind, I hope you know these few things that make me love you.

1. You are way cuter than I will ever be

That is just an undeniable fact. There is no way I could pull off being that hairy and that cute. Given that winter and my is right around the corner and the fact that my laziness highly outweighs my motivation to shave my legs I may just end up proving that statement.

2. You are really smart

I have no faith in your ability to do calculus, but let's face it, I have no faith in my own ability to do calculus either. Besides you are way better at getting what you want from people than I am.

3. You are also really grumpy

I cannot even say that you are old because you are not, but you complain like an old man who has had to put up with too much in his life. That being said, your grumpiness somehow makes you cuter, and I love hearing your low, non-threatening growls just for walking by.

4. Your laziness has got me beat

It has got to be nice to just lay around the house watching everyone else juggle their busy lives. All you have on your agenda is to find somewhere warm to cuddle up, eat, and ask other people to help you with what you need. Just wait until Christmas break then I’ll be some real competition for your laziness.

5. Seeing other dogs does not compare to seeing you

Being at college and seeing a dog makes my day like nothing else, but it also makes me miss you. I wish I could go home to your excitement every day. However, it makes it all that much sweeter when I finally do get to come home and see you.

6. I do not spend much time at home anymore, but that does not mean that I do not love you

Despite how smart you are I worry that as you watch me leave, you think I will not be coming back because it usually takes a long time before I do. However, while you may still live at home and I am out doing my own thing I promise I will always come to visit.

You are a great little dude, and I cannot wait to see you!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
