Winters are long and harsh, in some places more than others, and many people suffer from seasonal depression. While those cold winter nights are great for cozy fires, hot chocolate, and cuddling, there's only so much time you can spend indoors before you go stir crazy. The onset of warmer temperatures and sunny days is a much needed pick-me-up after several months of obnoxiously cold weather and cloudy skies. Here are just a few signs that spring is on its way.
1. You're more inclined to get out of bed.
When you wake up and check the weather app on your phone to see 70 degrees and sunny, you’re instantly excited to get up and get outside. After weeks of wanting to cuddle up in bed and hide from the cold, there’s nothing like a bright, sunshiny day to motivate you to get up and get going.
2. You’re more likely to walk to class.
When it’s beautiful outside, you’re more likely to leave your room a few minutes early so you can skip the bus and walk to class. The sun is shining, the breeze is cool, and you’ve been dying to wear shorts outdoors.
3. You don’t have to worry about layers.
There’s nothing worse than getting sweaty in your room while layering up for class, still being cold on your walk across campus, and then having to remove all those layers just to be comfortable in your heated classroom.
4. There are more opportunities to be social.
When the weather is nice, everyone wants to be outside. Any chance they get, students are outdoors sunbathing on blankets, “hammocking," throwing Frisbees, and overall being social. There are definitely opportunities to socialize during the harsh winter weather, but when the sun is out and the temperature is perfect, people are happier and more inclined to be outside making friends.
5. Dogs!
Everyone loves dogs. When the weather is nice, people are always outside with their dogs. Locals, townies, students that live off campus, and more are out walking and playing with their dogs, and there is nothing a college student (who is probably too many miles away from their own dog) loves more than a cute dog to pet.
6. You’re happier.
Good weather boosts your mood, there’s just no other way to put it. Absorption of sunlight triggers the production of more serotonin in your body, which is the feel-good hormone found in many antidepressants. When the weather is nice, people are happier and life is good.
