I can assure you that your GPA is probably higher than your bank account summary, no matter the amount of failed attempts on that sociology quiz. Being in college is a time for average high school seniors to hop down off their thrones and learn to be peasants. Okay, maybe that was a little harsh. Basically, money is tight when furthering your education. Tuition, books, and necessitates are your main concerns even if it means buying it all on clearance. Well, unfortunately tuition is never on sale.
If you want to live in the footsteps of myself and every other American college student, learn to deal with and enjoy the following behaviors.
1. You’ve noticed that your taste in cuisine has decreased dramatically.
A nice meal (especially home cooked) is one of the number one things you will miss. The four C's to food in college is: Cookout, Chipotle, Chick-Fil-A, and caf. Fast food is good for a while until your card is declined and then ramen noodles becomes a five star meal. Eventually, you'll learn to live by "free food is the best food".
2. The biggest fashion trend on campus is free t-shirts.
Comfort is key and there is no better promise to potential club members or game-goers than a free t-shirt. I mean, I'm only a freshman and I've seen students stand in line for hours on end and fight over the last bundles of shirts.
3. Generic brand and coupons has become your middle name.
From shampoo to plastic forks, Great Value is of great value. That slight price difference adds up to a lot more than you think, when you say goodbye to brand names and the time you spend finding tons of coupons.
4. Going to the mall and "shopping" isn't even fun anymore.
Window shopping is pure torture. Finding the absolute cutest dress and not being able to take it as my own, literally brings tears to my eyes. And, even more so, when the dress is on clearance and the tiny lump of cash you have is still screaming "NO."
5. When you go home, you need an extra suitcase just for the way back.
Strategically packing luggage is a talent. Go ahead. Stuff your mother's chocolate cake, toiletries you snagged from the cabinets, and those shoes you really don't want to wear but hey, remember, you're broke, all in one suitcase. Oh, and while you're at it, you could attempt hiding your dog in there too.
