6 Reasons You Need To Visit Thailand This Year
Personal

Upon finding an amazing deal for tickets in the winter of 2015, my family spontaneously decided to visit Hawaii. It was phenomenal and the experience had transformed my life beyond words. So when my 16th birthday came around, I knew that instead of throwing the traditional, luxurious party that my friends and sister had, I wanted to travel. Again I wasn't planning on going to Thailand— it was too expensive, but after stumbling upon another amazing deal for plane tickets, we found ourselves in the most magical place in the world (not Disneyland).

1. It's super cheap.

(above: this haul cost me around $34 total)

A large meal for one person was about 100 baht ($5) and you can buy everything from fake Michael Kors to every kind of meat. Plus, if you live anywhere that isn't the East Coast, your plane tickets should be cheaper than mine.

2. The food is amazing.

Traditional Thai food is just as good as you think it is, I think I had fried rice at least once every day. The desserts are delicious too, be sure to try the mango sticky rice. If you're vegetarian, it gets a little difficult, but most restaurants had a separate vegetarian menu.

3. You have the beach and the city all in one country.

We visited Bangkok and Phuket during our stay and Bangkok is everything you want in an urban metropolitan vacation, and Phuket is a beach-lovers paradise. Both just an hour flight away from each other.

4. The locals are the best.

Even though not everyone is fluent in English, and communication can get difficult, the people are some of the nicest that you will meet. Their hospitality can't be matched and they will show their beautiful country with open arms.

5. The temples are a work of art.

Regardless of what religion you are apart of, the temples are a sight to see. They provide a serene place where everyone is welcome (as long as you wear the appropriate clothing of course). The intricate designs on the temple walls and the grand decor and worship rituals for the Buddha are amazing!

6. It'll completely enhance your world view.

You will see the world from a new perspective and be glad that you did. Thailand is a place like no other, it's a fairy tale. If you choose to visit, I hope all your dreams come true.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
