I may be notorious for being a crazy dog lady. My social media accounts are filled with pictures of my dogs while my news feed is filled with pictures of other people’s dogs. In fact, I’m sure I cross a line when I say that my dogs have their very own Instagram page - run by me, of course. The phrase “dogs are a man’s best friend” holds true to me, and I’m sure it does to others as well.
1. They are ALWAYS thrilled to see you.
Whether you have been gone for weeks, or you've been gone for five minutes, the second they hear the door open, get ready to embark on a tail-wagging, face-licking reunion.
2. They can communicate with you based on expressions.
Human best friends claim that they can communicate with each other simply by a look, but this is true for dogs as well. Their slight tilt of the head and their obvious excitement when you ask, "Do you want to go for a walk?", proves that they are always intently listening to us, just like a best friend should.
3. They know when you are sad.
Dogs have a secret radar that can sense when their human is sad, and they immediately go into best friend mode. Whether that be sitting next to you, or offering a comforting paw, they want you to be happy just like you want them to be happy.
4. They want to have fun.
Playing fetch, going for walks, discovering new places, swimming, chasing squirrels, and learning new tricks. These are all activities that dogs love to do with their humans, and activities that humans love to do with their dogs to take their mind off of other stressors in their lives.
5. Saying goodbye is always a challenge.
No matter how many goodbye treats you give your dog, they still sadly watch you leave. Some dogs even stand by the window and watch you pull out of the driveway while simultaneously breaking your heart.
6. They are always loyal to you.
From leaping with joy when you come home, to sadly watching you leave, dogs are the definition of a loyal best friend. They are there to cheer you up when you are sad, and they are ready to have a good time when you are. You are their number one priority and you're just as much their best friend as they are yours.
