During college you begin to get less sleep then you ever have in your whole entire life. Whether this be because of cramming for a test, being out too late with friends, trying to act like it isn’t still a school night or you are really deep into a Netflix series and you just need to watch that One. Last. Episode. Regardless, my bed has always been my best friend. No matter where I go during the day I always return to it.
Here are six reasons why we should all be getting more sleep than we do …
1. Falling asleep in class is traumatic. You suddenly wake up, wipe the drool off the side of your mouth and wonder how long you were out for, if you were snoring (because sometimes that happens) and how many inconsiderate people took photos while you were dreaming to pass the time.
2. Looking like a zombie walking through campus. There is no real flattering way to wear the bags you accumulate under your eyes from lack of sleep. Try as you might, numerous people will still ask you if you are alright, and it isn’t because you are looking good.
3. Caffeine only helps so much. Drinking six cups of coffee or red bulls over the course of two hours will not trick your body for as long as you’d hoped it would. You will crash, and it will suck no doubt. Don’t waste your money.
4. You will forget what people say because you are so delirious. Trying to remember anything when you are super tired is nearly impossible. Maybe that’s why cramming for tests until 2 a.m. hasn’t worked out in my favor very often.
5. You are shorter with people than usual. Let John have the last eggo-waffle. The world isn’t ending. Go to bed.
6. You doze in and out of sleep while driving home from a long day. You think, “If I just close my eyes for juuust a second.” No, open your eyes because this is not safe, and you will swerve.
Moral of the story, your bed is your best friend, so treat it that way. Be loyal to your bed, the outcome will be tremendous. I know sometimes finding out if Chuck and Blaire are going to get together, or if Michael is going to finally break out of prison, or if another "Grey’s Anatomy" character died seems like a bigger deal than the amount of sleep you get that night. Remember the consequences. Don’t sleep at your own risk.
