With the election of 2016 quickly approaching and the first debate of the season before the home stretch just about underway, I found it well suited and appropriate timing to do my best to advise my peers to please not to vote for Donald Trump this November. Now, before you either (1) tear this post apart or (2) immediately exit the page, I ask that you continue reading for the simple reason that this post will have as little to do with actual politics as possible.
What I mean to say is that I am not arguing that Hillary Clinton is the best candidate for the presidency and that Donald Trump sucks, nor am I saying that either political party is better than the other. Politics, policies, and world news aside, I want to point out six different things I've noticed that have caused me to question and distrust Donald Trump’s character, and hence, his ability to “make America great again."
1. Donald Trump potentially mocked a disabled person.
Realistically, would I really want my future son/daughter to someday find a video online of the president of the United States mocking a disabled person? Absolutely not! How can you even explain something like that to a child – that it’s okay for the PRESIDENT to do that but not for anyone else? I am embarrassed at the thought.
2. Donald Trump has made sexist comments.
Though there are, of course, several takes on Trump’s choice of words, I have perceived several of Trump’s comments to be sexist. To me, one occurrence is enough to put a bad taste in my mouth, especially when we’re talking about someone who is to become the representative of Americans at large. I do not believe that someone who sarcastically references a woman’s menstrual cycle or nearly sexually harasses someone (depending on how you define sexual harassment) is fit for a world leadership role.
Real statements by Donald Trump with videos:
"You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes," Trump said during an interview with CNN's Don Lemon. "Blood coming out of her wherever."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Trump: “Excuse me, you DROPPED to your knees?”
Brande: “Yes."
Trump: "It must be a pretty picture, you dropping to your knees."
3.Donald Trump has generalized entire groups of people.
To me, something feels very wrong with the following statement by Donald Trump at his presidential announcement speech on June 16, 2015:
“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people."
Let's also not forget the wall that he is apparently going to build and have Mexico pay for. Should that money come out of all Mexicans' wallets? And if so, why should we blame the majority for a problem being caused by a supposed group of troubled criminals?
It feels to me like he is trying very hard to persuade people to think negatively about Mexico and Mexicans altogether. And it doesn’t stop there – we could also reference the way he talks about blacks and Muslims. This type of language is the exact language that has caused such widespread divisions amongst the American people as it is…
4.Donald Trump displays signs of narcissism.
So if you were wondering, no, Donald Trump is not a diagnosed narcissist, but he sure as hell sounds like one (to me.) It is a huge pet peeve of mine when people are entitled, self-centered, and obnoxiously overconfident. These qualities drive me absolutely bonkers, and I just cannot stand having a president who might say something like “I could stand in the middle of 5th avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose voters.”
5. Donald Trump undermined the value of The Purple Heart.
Purple Hearts are awarded to service members who suffer wounds in combat, and though they are honorable, they are not sought after… Unless you’re Donald Trump:
"I always wanted to get the Purple Heart. This was much easier.”
…Really?
6. If Donald Trump cannot even answer a question, how can he be president of the United States?
Videos like this one really make me question Trump’s credibility. Does he have any real stern beliefs, or is he just spewing out lingo that his campaign managers think will stir up publicity, capture Republicans, and maintain his position in the public eye?
If Trump can’t answer a question about his supposed beliefs at this stage of the game, how will he ever be able to give a State of the Union Address or negotiate with foreign countries?
Again, my reasons are with regard to MY perception of his character based on what I have read and seen, and I have sought to keep this as little to do with actual politics as possible. Please remember that I am focusing solely on MY perception of his character.
Based on my interpretation of his apparent traits alone, I would be quite embarrassed to welcome Donald Trump as the 45th president of the United States, and I hope that this article makes you realize that his presidency goes far beyond the Republican and Democrat side of things. At the end of the day, we are human beings and need to ask ourselves if Donald Trump is someone we would be proud to be represented by. Do we really want a reality star in the White House? Do we really want a potentially racist, sexist, ignorant, and bigoted person like Donald Trump to represent the American people?
