The 6 Reasons Why I Can't Wait For Winter Break

This semester has been great, and while I've learned a lot both in and out of the classroom, I am more than ready for winter break. College is great, don't get me wrong, but these last few weeks have not only tested my patience, but left me practically begging for some time to spend at home and relax. I cannot wait for this month-long break; here are the 6 things that have me the most excited.

1. Sleeping in my own bed.

Giving up my twin XL bed at school for a month is definitely exciting. Nothing beats sleeping in your own bed whenever you want, and for however long you want. This is definitely one of the most underrated aspects of being home.

2. Eating all of my favorite foods.

Being able to eat my parent's cooking and all of my favorite local restaurants will surely be amazing. Whenever I get sick of campus food, all I can think about is the amazing food I'll have waiting for me when I make my voyage back home, and it makes it all worth it.

3. Hanging out with old friends.

I love the friends I've made at school, but I really do miss the friends I had in high school and middle school. I miss bonding over the things that brought us together years ago and I'm so excited to reconnect with all of them.

4. Celebrating the holidays.

Of course, what would winter break be without celebrating the holidays? Spending time eating good food and exchanging gifts with your family is priceless and the perfect way to take my mind off of the upcoming spring semester.

5. Being with my pets.

Not being able to come home to my pets after classes is one of the only pitfalls when it comes to college. I miss my pets so much, so it'll be super nice to get to play with them and show them some love for a month or so.

6. Not worrying about school work.

Sure, the second semester is upon us, but it'll be nice to not have to stress over essays and studying for finals. Not having to worry about catching up on the reading or finding the notes online is going to be the absolute best.

With only a few weeks standing in between me and winter break, I have to say, I'm pretty pumped. A handful of classes left and some finals will totally be worth it when I'm home resting without a care in the world.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
