There are almost 3,000 colleges in the United States. When it comes time to pick one to attend, you usually want the best. You want a college that will expand your knowledge on a subject that you will follow for the rest of your life. This is can be very difficult for Christian students. A lot of Christian colleges don’t offer the high-quality education like many secular colleges do. For many students, a Christian college has never been an option in their mind. When people think of a Christian college, all they can see are the negatives. But there are many pros that will go to outweigh the negatives.
1. Professors truly care about you and want the best for you.
I’m not saying professors in secular colleges don’t care about their students. It’s just a different kind of caring. In Christian colleges, professors not only want you to succeed, but they want God by you side while you do. They encourage you with scripture. They teach you life lessons through the bible. And they go over and beyond to help you because that’s their way of serving the Lord. Unlike secular professor, who think they only have to answer to themselves, Christian professors have to answer to God in the end. And that changes the outcome of their teaching a lot.
2. There isn't as much partying.
Yes, there is always going to be partying at all colleges. But it is reduced at Christian colleges. Many Christian colleges have a no-alcohol policy. If they catch you with any alcohol in your system, they will expel you. Also, many of the students are Christians; therefore, they aren’t going to want to party as much. Yes, there will always be a temptation. And sometimes you may even give in to that temptation. But a true Christian will stay away from it. Drinking doesn’t make your night more fun; it makes your night more dangerous. In Christian colleges, that danger is reduced tremendously.
3. You have friends that share the same beliefs as you.
Going to college as a Christian can be scary. It’s very easy to lose touch with God when at college. There are so many new things happening that you tend to forget about God. Luckily, when you attend a Christian college, it’s very easy to find a group of friends that share your beliefs. You won't have to go to a new church all by yourself. You won't have to go to bible study alone. If you need prayer, they will be there for you. They won't tear down your relationship with God; they will help strengthen it. Soon, going to college as a Christian isn’t as scary, because of the wonderful people you have around you.
4. You have more one-on-one time with people.
Many Christian colleges are small. They don’t have the population that secular colleges have. That normally means every class you're in only holds about 20 to 30 people. When you have a smaller class, you get to connect and become friends with fellow students. Soon, you begin to recognize every face on campus. By the end of your four years, you will know most of everyone. Because of the smallness of the college, you have the ability to have a close relationship with a lot of other students.
5. You feel safer.
Something about being on a Christian campus makes you feel safer. Walking back to your dorm from the library late at night isn’t as scary. Being alone isn’t as scary. All around, the campus seems much more safe.
6. It can change the outcome of your life.
College is based around your future. When you spend your time at college partying and drinking, your future will not turn out how you want it to. When you put God at the core of your future, you will succeed beyond what you could ever imagine.
The pros will always outweigh the negatives of attending a Christian college.
