I don't know about anyone else, but it's pretty obvious to me that there's some straight bullsh*t flying around about Immigrants nowadays — and I'm over it.

1. "Illegal Immigrants are claiming all of our benefits!"

This one is probably one of the most common I hear, also the biggest load of sh*t I've heard. Illegal Immigrants cannot claim welfare or food stamps, considering you need a Social Security Number to do so... something illegal immigrants don't have.

2. "Illegal Immigrants don't pay taxes!"

Ever heard of property taxes? School taxes? Yeah, they pay them. Illegal Immigrants also pay taxes every time they purchase anything, whether it be food or clothing, they're paying taxes just like everyone else.

3. "Illegal Immigrants are taking all of our jobs!"

Okay, be honest here, when was the last time you looked for a job shoveling sh*t? Since that's the gist of jobs illegal immigrants can get since they don't have Social Security numbers. Unless it's an under the table job, it's not an available job for an illegal immigrant. Also, these employers usually pay their workers way below minimum wage and are incredibly unsafe jobs, since their employers don't have to follow labor laws. A lot of your food wouldn't be so cheap if it wasn't produced by the labor of undocumented immigrants.

4. "They're bringing crime, they're bringing drugs, they're rapists."

Sorry, had to quote Trump on that one. It may be surprising for some of you to hear, but this is also a big ole' pile of bologna. Violent crimes and property crimes from 1990-2010 decreased by 42%-45% even though the number of immigrants increased drastically. Crazy, huh?

5. "They're terrorists!"

I'm not even going to explain this one. Stop being a irrational moron.

6. "If you are an illegal immigrant, you're a criminal, hence ILLEGAL!"

Alright. Sorry to burst your bubble, kids. But being undocumented aka, illegal, in the US isn't actually illegal. It's a civil offense, a crime would bring a trial in a criminal court and would lead to imprisonment. Since it's only a civil offense, the only punishment is deportation. If you're going to have a hissy fit about it, make sure to kick up a stink about jaywalking and those not paying a parking meter. Throw em in jail!

Sit down, and shut up.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
