6 Little Things You Can Do For A Happier 2016

Well, it is a new year and many people our out there making resolutions. Some people want to finally lose weight, travel more, find love, and the list goes on and on. One thing that we can all agree on wanting in 2016 is happiness. Happiness can stem from so many big thing like finishing your degree or meeting "the one" but there are some small things you can do every day to just improve your overall wellness. Here are some tiny ways to have a happier 2016.

1. Exercise three times a week.

I know it is hard to find the time to exercise with a busy schedule, but it can really help your overall wellness. Not only will you stay in shape or lose a few pounds but you will also have more confidence. Exercise releases dopamine, which causes happiness, so not only will it help you look better but you will just feel happier.

2. Cut out sugary drinks.

Soda and juice are alright once and a while but swapping them out for water on a daily basis has many benefits. Not only will you not indulge in empty calories but also get healthier skin from drinking more water. Adding fruit and lemons to make detox water is a fun healthy way to add some flavor.

3. Get some sleep.

Again, sometimes people just can't find enough time to squeeze in the appropriate hours of sleep. It is super important to get at least seven hours of sleep so try and make it a priority in 2016. You will be more alert, less irritable and be able to retain more information in class and do better on tests if you are well rested.

4. Read a book.

Reading more can help you to do better in your classes and absorb more information. You will be able to comprehend more and articulate yourself in writing much more efficiently than if you didn't read. So pick up a good book and dive in.

5. Find comfort and peace in something.

Whether it is religion, meditation, exercise, yoga, and talking to your parents. it is super important to find a place or person who you find comfort in. When things are kind of going down hill it is important to have someone/something there for you to help you through it and remind you that it is all going to be OK.

6. Have fun and laugh more.

Life isn't all about work and school, but it is about the memories we make and the friendships we have. Don't forget to leave the textbook and work desk for a little and enjoy making fun memories with the people who love you the most. Having a good balance between work and play will just improve your quality of life. Have fun!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
