Everyone knows that college kids/20 somethings have very little money. Whether you believe it is due to the government, inflation, trickle down economics or pure laziness, the fact is that unless we were born into an extremely wealthy family, we probably live off of the dollar menu. Or, if you're lucky like I am, you only live about 20 minutes away from your ever-so-handsome eldest bro who cooks like a genius. Whether he wants me to eat his home cooking or not, he rarely stops me. However, there are still many days that I am left to fend for myself. These are a few of my favorite inexpensive food staples to keep in my kitchen for those hard times during the semester.

1. Cereal

I wish I was joking. You can get a huge bag of off brand mini wheat cereal for like, $3. Take advantage. I'll "splurge" on almond milk when I get paid because not only is it a vegan option, but it lasts longer than dairy milk!

2. Pasta

Not only is pasta super cheap, but it is also incredibly versatile. Spaghetti, cheesy egg noodles and ramen are some of my favorites.

3. Frozen Fruit

I will be the first to admit that nothing is better than fresh fruit. If you live on the Western Slope, then you know that there is nothing sweeter or juicier than a peach from Palisade! But frozen fruit does the trick, too. Purchase the ones that don't add extra sugar. You know. For your health.

4. Canned/Frozen Veggies

Rarely do I leave the supermarket [on payday] without some fresh avocados and baby carrots, but let's be honest, black beans, corn, peas and green beans taste fine from a can, too.

5. Rice

What a magical grain rice can be! And a little goes a long way. Use some of those black beans and tomatoes from a can to make a special little dish. If you some jalapeno hot sauce at the ready, make sure to sprinkle some on top!

6. Potatoes

As one very brave hobbit once said, "[You can] boil 'em, mash 'em...throw 'em in a stew." A large bag of potatoes may run you about $3-$5, but if you're smart with your portions, and store them correctly, you can make them last for a couple of weeks. Grab a couple of sweet potatoes, too, to add some variety to everyone's favorite carb.

You may not be able to make cordon bleu, or even pay for a fancy meal by yourself, but just by incorporating these six staples in your mini-refrigerator and pantry will save you money for coffee. Don't forget your favorite spices, grains and condiments, too!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
