This week, as I was sitting at my desk hyperventilating over my steadily filling planner, I couldn't help but think about what my favorite characters in my favorite shows would be doing if they were in my shoes. Sure, maybe my mind was wandering because I would way rather be watching Netflix, but I took a second to make a list of the women that I think are the most bad ass and why you should try and be more like them too. Sure, they aren't perfect. But that's what makes them so freaking awesome.

1. Leslie Knope

If you know me, you know this one is a big fat DUH. What's funny, though, is that politically Leslie and I are oil and water. What I admire so much about her is what drives her actions. She loves so hard that it makes people crazy and I just hope that I can find something to be as passionate about like Leslie is with Pawnee.

2. Liz Lemon

What I think every female should learn from the heart and soul of 30 Rock is that you can and will find happiness. She literally gets piled on every day by the insane personalities she works with but she always does everything on her own terms and because it's what she wants to do. Your happy ending may not look like everyone else's, but it will be perfect if you stay true to yourself.

3. Princess Leia

Dude, how can she not inspire you? I learned from doing my Myers-Briggs personality test that I am remarkably similar to this female powerhouse and I could not have been complimented more highly. She never takes no for an answer and doesn't even let getting shot with a blaster get in the way of fighting for her cause. If you want a lesson in how to be strong in a male-dominant society, watch Star Wars and watch Leia.

4. Lana Kane

Extremely large man hands aside, Lana is who I think of when I need to be more level-headed and sane. There are some days when I find myself being the narcissistic pansy that is Archer and the Lana in my head has to take over to keep me going. She is the caricature of a strong Amazon of a woman, but she never lets it stop her from being graceful under pressure.

5. Turanga Leela

Leela is definitely who I look to when I feel like I am standing out and not feeling particularly confident about my differences. She is a cyclops for crying out loud so if she can get through her day then I think I can conquer my small insecurities. In the midst of how different she is she still finds the ability to captain a space ship and fight for environmental rights around the galaxy. Makes that pimple on your chin feel pretty silly huh?

6. Nyota Uhura

Uhura may not be in the command yellow uniform of the starship Enterprise, but that doesn't mean that she by any means fades into the background. She is incredibly intelligent and is not afraid to break into a planning conversation that she thinks is moving in the wrong direction. She is bold and because of that her advice is trusted and her support relied on. She is a classic example of going beyond your situation and becoming a force to be reckoned with.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
