6 Feelings I Have About The End Of Camp
Jenna Jorgenson

As summer camp comes to a close, many feels have been caught. These are just a few of many thoughts going through my head as summer is wrapping up and the fate of my existence is no longer in the hands of greasy little six year olds.

1. Sweet mother of pearl, now I can sleep

The grueling routine of early mornings, organized snack time, yelling at kids to have fun, not actually getting to nap at "nap time" and late nights in the attempt to lead a normal social life are brutal on the human body. One cannot remain in these conditions longterm. It takes a toll on the sleep cycle as well-- to the point where the thought of actual sleep is something to praise.

2. No one's going to call me "Miss Jenna" anymore

Those freaking sweet little kids tear a happy hole in my heart when they run up to me and say, "Miss Jenna". I am slapped with reality when people refer to me as "just Jenna". The unfortunate mundanity of "just Jenna" is heartbreaking.

3. Hooray, I don't need moist things wiped on me constantly

For some reason, my skin always feels slightly wet when at camp. Whether it be from boogers being wiped on me, applesauce exploding, fruit cup discharge, rain (of course), kid sweat rubbed on me, or those stupid water bottle misters that kids spray in my eyes and yell, "GET WRECKED" and then run away before I see who it is. The anonymity of the source of the wetness on my skin is always frightening.

4. I'll miss my daily dose of free entertainment

There's nothing greater than candid kid behavior. Just watching how they operate is the best entertainment. Some of my favorite lines, "counselors don't pee!", "girls don't have snot!" and "they broke my heart!" (said by a five-year-old boy).

5. No more counting kids

Day camp 101 is always know where your kids are at all times-- which means constantly counting your kids into oblivion. When you're jolted back into reality, you have to start over with the count. Praise the Lord I don't have to brush up on my numbers again.

6. Say goodbye to ingrained camp songs on loop in my head

Bittersweet because some of those camp songs are actually pretty catchy.

I'll be honest, I'm going to miss the overall everyday excitement of day camp. Despite it's exhaustive nature, it's a good time. But most of all, I'll miss being surrounded by kids constantly, everyday of the week. Whether I like to admit it or not, they are pretty cute.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
