Deciding what to do and where to go on date night can be frustrating, especially when you're away at college and don’t know where everything is in the area. Typically, not having a set plan for date night results in three hours of asking "what do you want to do?" only to decide to order Chinese food and binge watch your favorite TV show for the fourth weekend in a row. Instead, why not shake things up and check out one of these cool places in the Wilkes-Barre area?
Akeno Sushi
Located on the Square in Downtown Wilkes-Barre, Akeno makes a great date location for college students. The menu is huge and the prices are just right. They have some really unique rolls that you can't really find at any other sushi restaurants in the area. I recommend the sweet potato roll, the spicy mango shrimp roll, and the peanut avocado roll. Wash it all down with some bubble tea, and if you're still hungry treat yourself to some fried ice cream!
CK's Cantina and Grill
CK's is a great spot to grab a bite to eat in the Dallas area. Be warned: this is definitely not the place to go on a first date, because let's face it, Mexican food is messy. So once you and you're significant other are comfortable enough to enjoy a messy meal together, make sure to choose CK's for your next dinner date. CK's is great for everyone because not only do they have chicken, pork, and beef as options for their meals, but they also have a vegetarian option, which is quite tasty if I do say so myself. They also have $4 house sangria, which pairs lovely with any and every item I have had on their menu.
The Lands at Hillside Farms
I absolutely love Hillside, located in Shavertown. Probably famous among local college students for their delicious ice cream, Hillside is a great place to go on a date, especially in the beginning of the fall semester or when it begins to warm up in the spring. Not only can you get a tasty sundae, but you can shop around in their antiques barn, check out the array of local products, browse through the greenhouses and see all of the animals raised on the farm. While I don't claim to be a country girl by any means, I definitely enjoy a sunny afternoon at Hillside Farms.
Ricketts Glen State Park
Located in Benton, PA, Ricketts Glen is a beautiful hiking spot. If you and your significant other are nature lovers, you definitely want to check out Ricketts Glen. The park offers hiking and camping, and is the perfect way to spend a sunny afternoon. Did I mention that there are waterfalls? And lots of them! So why not pack a picnic and head up to Ricketts for a day?
Coal Street Ice Rink
Ice skating is such a quintessential winter date. Until last year, I had never been ice skating, so I was really excited (and scared!) when I finally got the chance to try. I absolutely loved ice skating, and I didn’t even fall, which I thought was pretty impressive. The Coal Street Ice Rink in Wilkes-Barre is definitely an affordable place to go on an ice skating date, but be warned: it does get busy on the weekends.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Rail Riders
Spring is right around the corner, and you know what that means! It's baseball season! While you should definitely get out and cheer on your university's baseball team, sometimes it’s fun to go out and see a little-league game. The SWB Rail Riders stadium is located outside of Scranton, so it can be a bit of a hike depending on where you're coming from, but a baseball game is definitely worth it. Besides, when's the also time you had the Nutty Bavarian cashews? So slap on your baseball hat and take your significant other out to the ballgame.
