Often, you might find yourself standing in front of the mirror and staring at yourself. The longer that you stare, the worse that it might get. "I have so much acne!" "Why is my nose so big?" "I hate my figure!" These might be some of the degrading things that you quietly think to yourself. Even though you're only saying it to yourself in an empty room, it still all sounds so loud. We are our own worst critics. We can be way too harsh and our inner-selves don't appreciate it. The way that you view yourself can affect your choices and your relationships without you even being the slightest bit aware of it. It's no secret that, at times, it can be difficult to be comfortable in your own skin. We live in a society of comparison, but self-love is important. There seems to be a common misconception that being openly-confident is a bad thing, that it's conceited. However, It's only a bad concept if you let it get the best of you. If you take advantage of your confidence and bring people down so that you can feel higher, then you're being confident in the wrong way.
I always promise myself that I'm going to have a good attitude, that I'll have good vibes and not let myself get down. Things in life are good and they're going to continue to improve, but, of course, I stress the "what-ifs" and that's my biggest fault.
"Remember always that you not only have the right to be an individual, you have an obligation to be one." -E. E. Cummings
We're only human. We get down and develop stress, but we are also individuals and we don't give ourselves enough credit for that. We all have talents, traits, abilities, and knowledge unlike anybody else. There is someone somewhere that wishes that they were lucky enough to have those connect-the-dot freckles on your face that you loathe. Negative thoughts on yourself and your surroundings blur all of the good things that are going on in your life. It gives you a disfigured perception. Your label doesn't define who you are. That D that you got on your Biology test doesn't define who you are and neither does that extra weight that you have on your thighs. Allow yourself to be proud and get excited about your small achievements. The longer that you allow yourself to be happy, the more greatly improved that everything will be over time.
The bad thoughts that you have about yourself consume a significant amount of your day when those hours of inner struggle could be hours of pure happiness. Give yourself a break, embrace your surroundings, and appreciate your existence. Everything that you experience is what you make of it. Your life will only be as great as you allow it to be, so give your life the potential that it deserves.
