You Don't Have To Do This By Yourself

500 Words On Family
Sarah Motter

Lately I've been thinking a lot about family and friends and life in general. Maybe it's because I've been holed up in my apartment, only leaving to attend my other job, or maybe it's because some deity has deemed it so. Whatever the case, I realized some vital things. You see, I thought in order to be successful I had to make it on my own, this also means monetarily. I thought that if I asked my family to help me out with rent or buying food that I was asking them to help me pay for every aspect of my life. I realized today that I was seeing things differently than they were. My dad gave me some important advice. Family is supposed to help you out with these things, that's why they're your family. On top of unconditional love and security, your family wants to help you out in any way that they can, and if this means wiring you some money so that you can make rent then that's what they'll do. At nineteen you think you've got the world on a string, but quickly realize when the money doesn't come rolling in that you have limited options. Who else do you have to turn to other than your family? At the end of the day no matter how far you've strayed from the beaten path they are always there to pick you up. In some cases, though, asking for forgiveness will be involved. But, I assure you that no matter how badly you screwed up, at the end of the day family is family and they will invite you back. But whatever the matter of your falling out, your family will always be your family. Which brings me to my next point: Friends can be your family too. Since I've been away I have had a hard time making friends due to my acute social anxiety. But, the friends that I have made have been my entire world since. I don't know where I would be now without them, so dear reader, treat your friends well and they will pay you the same respect. I recently wrote an article on one of my best friends, and I can truly tell you that her and my other best friend have become my family. Family isn't only what you were born into, it's also the people that you meet along the way who help build you up. I can definitely say that the friends that I have made this year are my family and it will stay that way. Whatever your case is, though, you can fall back on whoever you like. I'm just here to say that you don't have to endure this crazy thing that we call life by yourself. You do not have to do it on your own. You have people there that want to help you. Even if you feel like you don't there is always someone, especially your family.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
