500 Words On Being Thankful

Being thankful is something that often gets overlooked. For whatever reason, all people seem to do these days is complain about things. If they aren't complaining about things, they are finding excuses as to why they can't be thankful. With the recent tragedies that have happened, people have really come together and have been supportive of one another. When bad things happen, people tend to look at themselves and are thankful that they are not in that situation. There is nothing wrong with being thankful you aren't in the same position as some of the people going through these hard times. Although, the one thing I think people forget to do is to continue being thankful. People often forget how blessed and lucky they really are until something bad happens. If you watch the news you see bad things happening every single day. The difference is, it typically takes something really big and bad to happen that affects a group of people, for everyone to realize, oh wow I am so glad that didn't happen to me or someone I know. It shouldn't take a big terrible event for people to realize how thankful they are for the things they have and for the people that are in their life. Being thankful is something that should be done every single day!

When you sit and think of all the good things that have happened in your life, and all the things you have that others might not, you become really humble. It can easily change your mood, and it is the simplest thing. Finding things to be thankful for shouldn't be that hard. It can show you that you shouldn't complain about the little things that happen, like hitting every red light on the way to work, or spilling food on your shirt. When you really think about it, it is so silly to be angry and upset about such little things. There are billions of people in this world, and there is someone that has it worse than you. Someone out there doesn't have a car to even get stopped at red lights, and there is someone out there that doesn't have a shirt to spill food on. Be thankful for what you have. Be thankful for the people in your life. Be thankful for the people that are your family, or the people that are like family. Be thankful that you lived another day, because some people didn't get that chance. There are always things to be thankful for, even little things, and it shouldn't take a really bad event in the world to make you realize how good you have it. Think about some things you are thankful for and write them down so you can have that to refer to in case you ever forget how blessed you are!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
