We have all had a person in our life that has made a major impact on us. No matter who it may be, they have helped form and shape us into the people we are today. High school is a time when you start figuring out what exactly you want to do with your life. Your teachers, parents, family, and friends encouraged you as you started making this major leap in your life into becoming an adult. However, the main people who will forever hold a lasting impact on your life were your coaches.
They taught you life lessons outside of your sport.
No matter if you were doing 1,000 push ups after you made a mistake, or eating two for $20 at whatever Chili’s was close by after a tournament was over, nothing will ever replace the memories and lessons learned shaped you into the person you are today.
They treated you like you were one of their own.
No matter what, they straight up told you their blunt and honest opinion. Since you basically spent 24/7 with them, they know your whole life. Whether it was a boyfriend, school, or sport-related problem, they were always the first to know. They supported you, and were always there if you needed someone to vent too.
They reminded you what your priorities in life should be.
Even though your sport was important, they constantly reminded you that God always came first, family second, and school third. It was sometimes hard to remember this since you were always worrying about what big game or match was coming up, but when things became too much to handle, they reminded you just how important these things are in life and that you must always have a balance.
They made you more independent.
They ALWAYS treated you like you were an adult. Even if you were having the worst day in the entire world, they would never baby you at practice. Even if you thought they were the worst human being alive for pushing you to do better, they made you more independent by showing you what you can accomplish when life throws you a curve ball.
They built your confidence up.
When they first started coaching you, it was rough starting out as a new player. As you continued playing, they encouraged you as you excelled and celebrated your successes you accomplished. They made you realize that new beginnings turn into great things if you work hard enough for them.
