It's finals time! This usually means lots of late nights, coffee and hair pulling. You can easily start losing steam and feeling way to nervous or stressed during this time. Here are some quick and simple ways to avoid the unnecessary stress that comes with finals.
1. Put down that soul sucking social media device
Being constantly attached to your phone waiting for that next notification to pop up is a really easy way to start racking up unnecessary stress. So just put it on silent and do not worry about it until you have gotten everything you need to do out of the way
2. Go for a walk
There is no doubt that getting outside and breathing some fresh air will help calm you down. Just a 10 minute walk can help you feel renewed and ready to tackle whatever your working on. The exercise you get from going for a stroll gets your blood moving again and helps you wake up and get some more energy flowing. Even if you think you will never have time, just take a litte walk anyway and odds are your work will fly by when your back.
3. Practice deep breathing
By taking a minute to close your eyes and follow a simple breathing technique you can bring your inner peace back. By taking long, slow breaths through the nose and out the mouth you can help slow your heart rate and provide a fresh wave of oxygen. Your body will start to feel less tense and your mind will feel a lot more clear. This tip is nice and easy as you can do it anywhere your working and it will definitely help relax you.
4. Pet some pets, or at least watch some.
Animals and especially puppies are proven cures to helping you relax and forget unnecessary stress. So go find a friend with a dog or just look up some cute puppy videos to put your mind at ease. The positive energy from an excited dog or a purring cat will definitely help bring you back to a healthy relaxed state.
5. Just take a break
Harvard health suggests to just by stepping away and enjoying some "simple things, like a warm bath, listening to music, or spending time on a favorite hobby, can give you a much-needed break from the stressors in your life." Might as well listen to the people at Harvard Health and go do something enjoyable for a little while. After enjoying a small break or something to distract you from your work you can come back with fresh ideas and a new drive to reach the finish.
So there are some easy ways to destress that you can incorporate with your already busy schedule and help ease your nerves. Some only take a minute of your time but all will lift some of that weight off your shoulders for a while.
