All cities are unique and offer many different things. Those things include food, events, companies, theme parks, etc., which gives the city some character. Cities have things for everyone, you just have to find what that is for you! But, here are some of the things that stand out to me when I think of my hometown, York, Pennsylvania.
1. Maple Donuts:
The best donuts in the world made fresh daily! Great for breakfast, a snack or dessert! Many cities have their own staple donut place but we in York, PA have Maple Donuts to feed our sweet tooth. Oh yeah and did I mention they are made fresh daily!?
2. York Fair:
A one week event held in downtown York every September. A place to see concerts, eat delicious food and contribute to local businesses. The York Fair has been a staple in York since 1765. It was also America's first fair, giving the fair some historical flair.
3. PeoplesBank Park:
Home of the York Revolution baseball team. A place for the avid sports fan to visit. The park also features a playground area with a carousel, a jungle gym and many other playground equipment, making it perfect for families too! The season starts in April and goes till September and games are almost every night at 6:30 p.m. The games will sometimes even include a firework finale.
4. Rutter's Dairy Farm:
A local business that is branching out through Adams County. There a 60 retail locations which serve as a convenience store that features their own dairy products. There is also a dairy farm right in York that offers a fun field trip opportunity for classrooms!
5.Leg Up Farmers Market:
Opened in March of 2016, its a new local farmers market for people to go to for fresh produce and local goods. It is a for-profit entity that supports Leg Up Farm, a non-profit therapy center for children with special needs. So not only are you getting fresh natural produce that is locally grown you are also supporting a good cause, what could be bad about stopping in an buying an apple!
These are thing things I crave when at Lock Haven and look forward to when I do come home. My family loves all of these things and there truly is something for everyone in my family. No matter what city you live in there is sure to be something unique that fits your personality as well.
