As a junior in college it is very easy for me to get stressed out anymore. I thought taking 18 credits would be simple, but I find myself really stressed about what project is due next and what test is coming up. I have found five things that I can turn to, to relieve me of this and make me feel better almost instantly.
1. A good book ( that you actually enjoy reading).
Not a text book, an actual book that you have chosen out of free will. When I was younger I absolutely loved reading and I still do! However being in college, it is hard to even get a minute to eat and shower, never mind find the leisure time to read a book that you actually enjoy. I found that is important to set aside time for things you actually enjoy doing, I started to set aside time in my crazy schedule to get lost in a great book that does not involve school. It lets you take your mind off of your crazy life for a while and get lost in a different world.
2. Exercise!
I am far from a born athlete and it did take me a little while to realize that i actually do enjoy exercise; however it is one of my favorite stress relievers. You may feel as though it is impossible to squeeze in time to work out, but the littlest bit helps! While school is extremely important (it is why were all in this crazy thing called college) taking care of your body is super important as well. Realizing the exercise does help relieve stress will help you to look at it as something that is bettered your body and not a chore. Finding a workout class that you enjoy going to can be great because it won't feel like you're actually working out. Grab your water bottle, pop your head phones in, and let's go!
3. A good cup of coffee.
Or tea, for all of those non-coffee drinkers. It sounds silly but drinking coffee actually helps bring me to a comfortable place. When I am feeling extremely stressed out, exhausted, and unmotivated and I drink a cup of coffee it kicks me right back into gear and helps me through my day. There is nothing a good cup of coffee can't fix.
4. Enjoy the great outdoors.
It's crazy how much the weather can actually affect your mood! Coming back from spring break on a rainy monday morning definitely did not put me in the greatest mood. Break was over, the warm Florida weather was long gone, and it was back to loads of school work. However, on wednesday the weather was absolutely beautiful and sunny. Even just walking to class in weather like this instantly boosted my mood. When that spring weather finally starts showing up, spend as much time outside as possible!
5. Talking to your family and friends.
Saving the best for last. When I am super stressed about school I get anxious feelings and I feel like I am drowning in work, however having even a 15 minute conversation with my parents, grandma, or sister brightens my day and they make the stress go away even if its for a little while. Never be afraid to turn to the people you love for help when you are feeling lost and anxious!
