I’ll be honest. For the last 8 years, I didn’t pay nearly enough attention to our Vice President. I feel so foolish for not appreciating him while we had him. Especially now, with politics being the most stressful subject I’ve experienced in a while, I want to take our minds off of it with something pure. Something totally superficial, but pure. Shout-out to Joe Biden: I’d like to invite you to my family’s Thanksgiving dinner.
Now while I wait for his inevitable RSVP, here’s 5 times I wished Joe Biden was my 3rd grandpa.
When he was endorsed by my hero, Leslie Knope.
Totally off subject, but if you’re not familiar with Parks and Recreation, it’s worth binge-watching. Leslie is the most zealous member of the City Hall team in Pawnee, IN. And her love and admiration for Joe Biden is 2nd to none. I felt like a proud mom the day Leslie and Joe got to meet.
When he wished his BFF a Happy Birthday on Twitter.
I mean, come on. If you say this didn’t make your heart feel light, I just don’t believe you.
Every time he looked like a child on Christmas morning, when receiving an ice cream cone.
Look at that face. Please God, allow this man to never develop a lactose intolerance. This childlike wonder is inspirational.
When he eased our anxiety after the presidential election, even just for a minute.
While Barack Obama was delivering a speech acknowledging Donald Trump as our president elect, Joe was right there. “Even I’ve lost elections- Joe hasn’t”, Obama jokes. Joe puts his arm around him and says, “you beat me badly”. It was fun. A moment of purity to break up the chaos. We needed that.
When he became a meme.
The cherry on top of this sundae. These Obama/Biden memes say what we’re thinking, and they’re hysterical. Even if Joe doesn’t have anything to do with these memes, his being the face of them is absolutely enough for me.
So, Joe, I’ll sorely miss you as our Vice President. It’s hard to argue that there will be a duo like you and Obama in politics anytime soon.
