Once you start college, it can be extremely intimidating. It is the first time you have ever had to leave your parents and live on your own. You have to shop on your own, get everywhere you need to go on your own, and basically survive as a young adult on your own. Of course, your mom will be there for you with the frequent phone calls. It might have not occurred to many college students how much we really do need our moms when we go away. Our moms are just as sad to be living without us as we are sad to be without them. Here are some times in college you really needed your mom:
1. When You Did Laundry For The First Time
Doing laundry in college for the first time was definitely a moment where you needed your mom. "It says hand wash, but can I still put it in the washer?", "Why are there 4 settings on the dryer: delicates, low, medium and high?", "How much fabric softener should I put in?", etc. At that time, you most definitely called your mom, and she was there to answer all your questions.
2. After Your First Day Of College Classes
It did tend to get annoying coming home from school everyday and hearing the question, "How was school?" However, after the first day of college classes it was welcoming coming back to the dorm and telling your mom how your day went over the phone. No one will be as happy as her to hear how your 500 person lecture went.
3. When You Felt Homesick
It is common to get homesick when you're away for the first time. Being a freshman in college, it can be the first time you have ever spent months and months away from home. Missing home is something a lot of college students have to cope with. Whenever the homesick feeling kicks in, mom will be there to talk. Call her up and she will answer on the first ring.
4. For When You Actually Got Sick
Being sick in college tends to happen a lot as you are surrounded by germs 24/7. When you got sick in college all you wanted to do was lay in bed and wish your mom was there to comfort you. Instead, you had to find your way to the local CVS and buy off brand soup to try and stay healthy.
5. During Exam Week
Finals week can easily be one of the most stressful things anyone has ever had to endeavor. After you have stayed up until 4 a.m. studying, sometimes you just want a hug from your mom. Also, sometimes you just want to hear her say, "good luck" before you walk out the door to take your exam.
So thanks to all the moms that have been there when we needed you in college. We love you!
