It becomes all too easy to forget what is important in life. We often get caught up on the wrong things and later look back and think “man, I wish I would have done that” or “man, that was not worth my time or energy.” The good news is we are young and still have a lot of life before us. There is no better day than today for you and me to begin living whole-heartedly for ourselves. We each have the power to make whatever we want out of today, tomorrow, and the rest of our life. So why not make it the best life possible?
1. Create your own happiness.
It is true. Happiness comes from within. You may have to begin with the “fake it until you make it" attitude, but eventually you will wake up one morning and believe in the smile that you are wearing. The most toxic thing that we can do is to put our happiness in the hands of others. You do not live for anyone, but yourself. Find whatever it is that makes you happy and pursue it whole-heartedly.
2. Embrace every possibility.
We can sleep when we are dead. You can do whatever you set your mind to. You should set goals and work towards them every day. Excuses will no longer be an option. Take every opportunity instead of just waiting for the next one. Life is for living and no better way to live than to embrace every possibility that God sets before you.
3. Make peace.
Let go of the toxic people in your life. Stop holding grudges over things in your past. Be the light. Find your own peace of mind and it will become contagious among others. Invest your time and energy into the good things in life rather than stressing over trivial nonsense. Don’t argue with your mom and forgive those who hurt you. You will thank yourself later.
4. Be spontaneous.
Make crazy decisions on a whim. Sign up for the club that looks interesting, try new things, go on an adventure. These moments of spontaneity will be the memories you cherish forever. You are young, but you won’t be young forever so just do it. Do whatever it is you’ve been hesitant to pursue, but make sure these decisions are not illegal or too dangerous.
5. Remember to breathe.
It is easy to forget to breathe when life seems so fast paced sometimes. Take moments to relax for yourself and your sanity. Never stress the small stuff, it is not worth it. Remember you are exactly where you are supposed to be right now. When life seems to be tossing you around, take a second, step back, and breathe. You will gain strength from your weak moments.
