Living with another person can be difficult and downright scary. I mean, this is a person that isn't your family. You don't know them through a hole in the wall, but eventually, that changes. Sometimes you're living with a random stranger that the college set you up with or you're moving in with your best friend. No matter what, if you're lucky, you build a bond with that person. It could be one that's just starting, or one that's becoming closer than you've ever imagined. Throughout your time together, it's a given that you'll be with each other throughout major portions of your life.
I moved in with my best friend into our first off-campus apartment in May 2015. We're now in our second apartment together until May 2017. I can honestly say, living together has brought us closer than anything I ever pictured. Our families are practically one, we know each other's secrets, and we walk around in our underwear completely comfortably.
Thanks For Handling My Wild Shenanigans
Now, personally, these don't happen often for me. But, there have been nights where I've drank and just cried. A lot. Or I've drank and gotten really sick. Or there were nights where I would be out of sorts and freak out over the doors being locked for a good 20 minutes (Savannah, you know exactly which night I'm talking about.) Either way, you've never judged me on my lack of handle on my alcohol or a situation. Instead, you laughed along with my ridiculousness and joined in.
Thanks For The Food
Okay, this definitely goes both ways. A major perk of living with your best friend is the random food you get each other. I've come home one night and there was pizza waiting for me. MY FAVORITE FOOD. Or I'll have Reese's in the fridge for me when I get back from work. It's the little things like bonding over our shared love of candy or getting Gino's in the middle of the night that brighten my day. Which brings us to...
Thanks For The Late Night Adventures
Literally, if it's a drive around the neighborhood for a half hour with some good music playing and just talking, or driving forty-five minutes away for pizza, you're always up for an adventure. And I honestly think those adventures are what bring us closer. Even when we lived on campus, just going for a walk to a spot on campus. It's knowing that no matter the time, it's never a bad time to spend time together.
Thanks For Dealing With The Heartaches
Being a college girl who wants a relationship in a world where most college boys just want to have some fun, you could imagine the countless times I've cried over a guy who didn't deserve my time. When living together, not only do you meet the boys, but you know the stories good and bad. And you listen to every single one, and you're there to offer your wise words to get me up off the ground and get back on the horse.
Thanks For Sticking Around
I'm a hard person to deal with. Not because I'm mean, or clingy, or anything like that. I say I'm hard to deal with because I've got a past that catches up with me, and I have insecurities and anxiety that make me break down. It takes a good person to stick around and help build you back up after you've been at your lowest. To have someone not judge you and be concerned for your well being is something I hope everyone has, and I'm lucky enough to live with someone like that.
Now I don't know if everyone has been lucky enough to become so close with their roommate or best friend turned roommate, but I hope you do. Having the chance to live with someone and be so close with them is awesome. You always have someone to talk to, and do stuff with, and you have someone to keep you in check. It's like a slumber party every night. So give your roomie a hug and give her some thanks, and being thankful living together is working out because I promise it's not going to be the same once you're not living together anymore.
Thanks for everything Savannah, love you girl.
