So, recently I was able to break the weekly routine and take a spontaneous trip to see two of my good friends in good ole NYC.
Being an alumni of Mount Saint Mary College, I have visited the city quite a few times over the years. That being said, this trip was just as unique as the others, but of course a few things never change when you visit New York City.
I believe it had almost been a year since my last trip to the city, so although I was prepared there were a few things I remembered or relearned. Five of said things I'd thought I'd share with everyone, help make future experiences more care free.
So, here are my 5 things to remember when visiting NYC:
1. Pack light.
The city is a big place and who wants to travel around all day with a load of there back? I know it wouldn't be my first choice! It also is for security purposes. Not that going to a big city automatically means people are going to try and rob you, but you want to be able to keep your things safe and in reach. Also with the number of people walking the streets and numerous tiny shops, its easier to navigate without a big bag being something you have to worry about.
2. Wear sensible footwear.
This one seems to be one of the most obvious ones of course. I know that many of us are fashion forward or at least conscious of our outfit choices, but I want to remind everyone that although good fashion means pain, maybe when you visit the city you can sacrifice. Even if part of your trip is riding the subway (where you may end up having to stand anyway), I recommend wearing comfortable shoes. And yes ladies, that means you may need to sacrifice that gorgeous heal that makes your outfit and go for a pair of flats or sneakers. I know for some this is a lot to ask and many with continue to bear the pain for a good shoe, but I just want to remind everyone of how much walking one can actually do in the Big Apple.
3. Be prepared to burst your wallet.
Now, I feel this one can be argued against, but I think most people would agree. If you plan out your trip you might do your best to price out the day or however long it is. However the city is a place of opportunity and random experiences, so I think it's 100 percent better to plan and have a number in your head but also be prepared to go over that number. And by be prepared, I mean, make sure the money is in your account before you depart on your adventure.
4. Lost? Navigate with your phone.
Plain and simple right? Like everybody says, "there's an app for that!" But truthfully I never thought to use my Google Maps to help navigate my way through the streets of NYC. I'll admit I felt stupid for not realizing it sooner, however, bonus tip, you don't want to seem like a tourist when visiting the bug city. So use your brain and navigate as you so choose, just be aware of your surroundings at all times!
5. Experience all you can!
I don't feel I need to elaborate much on this tip, but really, the city is a big place (as I've said before) and you should never close yourself off to new adventures!
I wish you all luck on your next adventure!
