Yes, it is August, which means that school will be starting anywhere from in two weeks to after labor day. Either way, it is undoubtedly fast-approaching. I’ve always had mixed feelings about the last month of summer; I’m always excited to go back, see my friends and get back into my routine, but not so excited to start waking up early to go to class. To make this last month of summer count, I’ve made a list of some things you should do, so you can cross at least a few items off that bucket list you never quite got around to yet.
- Lake day. If you live in the Midwest (specifically Minnesota), you know that spending time on the lake is a big deal, and access to a pool or lake is pretty easy to find. Whether it’s a day of laying out, boating or jet skiing, it is the perfect opportunity to spend some time with all your girls (or guys) before they head back to school. Also, you can add the final touch to that natural glow you’ve been working on all summer!
- Drive-in movie. These are pretty easy to find in some areas, and while it might be a little drive, it is worth it to do at least once a summer (Vali-Hi is a popular option for those in Minnesota). Instead of just staying in at someone’s house for a movie night, drive-ins mix things up a little while still being relaxing and cozy. Be sure to grab lots of blankets and movie snacks. Also, drive-ins make for the perfect date night under the stars.
- Back-to-school shopping. No, I don’t mean for school supplies, even though that can be a pretty fun shopping trip for some people. However, in my opinion, clothes trump supplies. Back to school shopping always makes that dreaded start of 8 AM classes a little better because it’s just more fun to wear something new. Pick up some cozy sweaters, crisp jeans and a vest for some fun layering, and you’ll want to get up and get dressed in the morning.
- Outdoor concert. Tons of artists tour during the summer, and if you haven’t already, you should to go to a concert at an outdoor venue. Whether it be a local artist, music festival or someone like Taylor Swift, there are plenty of options to choose from, and some are even free! Being at a concert while watching the sun go down is a pretty cool sight, and it allows you to enjoy the final rays of summer. Also, another fun date night.
- The State Fair. Your state probably makes a pretty big deal out of the state fair, and for good reason. Most of them take place at the end of the summer, so it is the perfect time to grab your friends one more time before everyone splits up again. From tons of different foods on a stick to funnel cakes to some pretty interesting entertainment, spending the day walking around and eating is the best way to close the summer.
However you choose to spend your final days of summer, make sure you spend them with good friends, in the sun, eating lots of ice cream, and relaxing before school starts up again.
