Come on, I can't be the only one just waiting to jump into summer!
I also know that I am not the only one who, when summer arrives, has no idea what to do with their time. Of course there are the classic ways of staying cool such as good ole' Ice Deli and Popsicles. Maybe you are one of the lucky people who don't have to pay to spend the day at the pool. However, even though floating around on a float while soaking up the sun sounds like the perfect way to watch the hours drift away (Get it? Drift away? *inserts laughing emoji here*), don't you wish you had a whole list of stories you had to tell when you got back to school? So saddle-up and get your reading glasses on, which hopefully you don't need if you are young like me, and prepare to have your excitement for this summer turned up a few notches!
1. Go Somewhere You Never Thought You Would.
Let's face it, we aren't getting any younger and tomorrow isn't promised, so why not make a rash decision to gather some of those friends I hope you have and go somewhere new? Now, I am not telling you to go out and "YOLO" and do something that could hurt you, but I am telling you to live your life. Get out of your comfort zone a little bit and head somewhere you never thought you would end up. But be sure to at least research the area you are going to for restaurants and places to stay if need be!
2. Learn A New Hobby or Skill.
Have you ever heard of "wood-burning?" What about floorball? Now floorball I hadn't heard of until recently, and I still do not know what that is, so don't penalize me if that doesn't turn out to be fun! But find something new that you think would be a fun change to what you are normally doing. Hey! Maybe even get your friends into this newfound hobby of yours! After all, trying new things is always more fun with friends because you can always laugh at each other if you mess up!
3. Go Geocaching!
I did this last summer and boy did I end up in some of the most random places! Now DO NOT do this alone, because of the fact that YOU WILL end up in the most RANDOM places. But get some friends together or grab your boyfriend/girlfriend and download the app. It's free and all you have to do is type "geocaching" in the search bar, click, and download. Don't get discouraged if you can't find a geocache on the first try. You would be surprised how many little treasures are hidden around your town! But don't forget to take something small to swap out with one of those hidden treasures, and when I say something "small," I mean something like the size of a marble or a game token.
4. Two Words: Road Trip.
Now if you are anything like I am, you most likely don't have cash to just throw in the air and plan an extravagant trip with your friends or significant other. So this doesn't need to be a trip to New York, even though almost everyone reading this article would love to go there someday. This road trip could be as simple as finding a bunch of events happening in your state or a surrounding state and making a timeline to go to them. You could do this all at once or you could take mini road trips throughout the summer. Whichever you prefer! As long as you are having fun with the people you love to be around, then you are all good!
5. Put The Phone Away And Shut The Laptop!
I cannot stress enough why this is the most important and fun thing to do on this list. When I was younger I would play outside everyday, I always loved finding new things around the yard or taking walks, creating my own little scavenger hunt. So, put your phone down, close your laptop and go explore! Go to a hiking trail with a friend or friends and take in the scenery. Enjoy the little things we may overlook because we are too busy texting, tweeting or posting pictures on snapchat. Try not to do those activities and make the memories where, when asked about them you have to say, "Oh you just had to be there" and make them wish they were! You don't always have to let everyone know that you ate ice cream and went to the park. I know it is tough, but you can stay away from that phone for at least a couple of hours to enjoy what you may be missing out on!
There are so many fun activities you could do with friends this summer, so don't stay inside, get out there and enjoy the world! I promise you wont be disappointed, not as long as you are surrounded by the people that make you happy!
