The holidays are a special time of year for many families but it seems like Thanksgiving plays a very important role in the lives of many families.
There is just something about Thanksgiving that makes families want to come together. The list of reasons can go on and on but the five items listed below seem to stand out the most. Thanksgiving is not about gifts; it is about families and friends coming together to give thanks to one another.
1. Family
Thanksgiving is all about families coming together to enjoy each other’s company and to rejoice. Through thick and thin family always has each other’s back. Thanksgiving is an excuse to see family members that you haven’t seen all year. The chance to catch up on events and milestones that happened. It’s the time to see that crazy aunt and talk to that cousin that has been up at school all year. Like Daniel Powter said in the song Bad Day, “You need a blue sky holiday, the point is they laugh at the things you say.”
2. Gratitude
People always have something extra to be thankful for on Thanksgiving. It’s not meant to say that people are not thankful every other day; but there is something special about thanksgiving. Families gather together, friends catch up and a sense of gratitude fills the air during Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is the chance to take a step back from everyday life and say thank you to someone that has helped you the most.
3. Tradition
Some things never change; family traditions may vary but they will never end. The biggest tradition of Thanksgiving is waking up in the morning to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade; you see how happy everyone is and you watch the balloons march down the streets of New York City. You go to your grandparent’s house where the turkey along with the other types off food is cooking. You wait for your cousins to get there so you can have a grand old time and forget about all of your worries. It seems that no matter how old you get you will always have a special seat at the “kids” table.
4. That Time Of Year
The leaves change colors, people are happier and the stores are selling holiday things. You know thanksgiving is here when stores are selling Christmas decorations. When thanksgiving arrives there is a different kind of feeling in the air that brings people together.
5. Food
It wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without the never ending supply of food. Every family has traditional food that they prepare but one thing for sure is that every family will have a turkey.
Thanksgiving is a special time of year. I know there are more things that people love about thanksgiving but I hope many can agree with the things listed above.
