Several days ago I traveled up north to New Jersey for the very first time. The trip started out less than perfect seeing as how we ended up sitting on the plane for about five extra hours due to bad weather in Philly, where our friend was picking us up. While in New Jersey, I was in for the adventure of a lifetime, one filled with countless memories with friends both old and new. In sitting on the plane for the extent of time we were on it, I befriended the two people beside me, they told me all of the ins and outs of New Jersey, so needless to say I had super high expectations of the place, and was ready for a great experience.
1. The ice cream is the bomb.com.
New Jersey has an icy treat they like to call Water Ice. This is softer that Ritas, and better than your average snow cone and sure to make your taste buds go crazy. They also have the best soft serve hands down that I have ever tasted. We just so happened to be there on National Ice Cream day, and needless to say I will be going back next year just for that.
2. Do NOT eat on the beach.
So needless to say I learned the hard way that one does not eat snacks on the beach. Having only been to southern beaches, I didn't realize how active the seagulls were on the beaches in New Jersey.
3. Pizza... Bigger than your face.
I have never had a bigger slice of pizza than I did in Ocean City. Might I also add it was some of the best pizza I've ever had. Forget Dominos and Papa Johns, I am now forever wishing I could have Brother's Pizza delivered to my house all day every day.
4. McDonalds is the ONLY place for sweet tea.
A few of my friends that went on the trip are sweet tea addicts, so of course they were dismayed to find out that sweet tea isn't a hugely popular thing where we were. They asked for sweet tea almost everywhere we went, but soon found out that if you want the sweet tea you're used to, McDonalds is a MUST.
5. One word... Wawa.
Wawa is the place to go in New Jersey, open 24/7 it's the perfect place for a late night snack. I became very fond of their Mac & Cheese. It tasted very close to Cracker Barrel's, and gave me the little taste of the south I needed to get through the trip.
