5 Things I Learned During Big Little Week
Jade DeArmond

1. I'm not the best artist.

Seriously, how do you people do this? I mean, I'm not the worst but I'm definitely no good. I had several canvases turn out well, but the majority were just average and looked like a preschooler colored them. Pinterest is the bane of my existence because I couldn't replicate srat canvases to save my life.

2. The bigs are super nervous.

I thought I was the only one for a few days until I heard one Big say, "What if my little doesn't like me?" I also heard, "What if she wanted someone else?" And "What if she's not excited?" When I got my big, I don't remember being nervous, but looking back I'm sure she was! It's a lot of pressure to the Pinterest-perfect Big, and very often either the big or little sister doesn't get their first choice. Here's the thing – there's a 99 percent chance that she will like you and you will like her. And if you're in the one percent? Well, there are plenty of other girls in your sorority that you can be besties with.

3. NEW MEMBERS ARE SNEAKY.

I repeat new members are sneaky. They want to know who their big is but, at the same time, they don't want to know. So they stalk the absolute heck out of their potential bigs on social media, but not too much because they don’t want to figure it out. That may not be all new members, but that's what I was told.

4. I've never spent so much money on a single person at once.

Like, really, though, my goal was about $250 MAXIMUM, and I spent about $300 at least. And probably half of that was the week before and the week of Big/Little. I had a sufficient amount of things, but some girls got a lot more. Personally, when I got my Big, I loved all of the things but it was almost too much. I "regifted" a lot of my own stuff, because I just didn't have room for it! I don't even know how girls took twins, this was so stressful with just one girl to worry about! It was all worth it though :)

5. Hobby Lobby is my best friend.

Do I really even need to explain this?

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
