As a women who played travel Women's lacrosse for years and still coaches, I have heard many a thing. I have heard things on the way to, at, and on the field. After a while I had accumulated a list of things you can hear at a Women's Lacrosse tournament.
1. THEY HAVE BUCKET HATS! IT'S A MIRACLE!
While this is the quote that is the most situational, there are similar occurrences all the time. Whenever there is a long break in between games at a tournament, vendors are always there to save the day. There's usually a big colony of tents which are vendors that will sell you anything from actual lacrosse equipment to lacrosse jewelry. Usually you can hear people whisper about what they want, but one day I leaving a tent and one player ran up to her teammate screaming "They have bucket hats! It's a miracle!"
2. Where is the nearest Subway?
Sure, there are food vendors at the tournament, but if you do not eat right during the hot summer season then you may end up seriously sick. That is why there is Subway. While Subway may not be the absolute healthiest choice for athletes, it is a lot more healthy the competing fast-food chains. Because of the prominence all over America and the affordability, Subway has become one of the more popular choices for athletes on the go.
3. Why are all these people here?
This sentence is muttered by other people when you and your entire team are out together, most commonly for team dinners and hotel hangouts. It is easy to see a bunch of girls in uniforms and want to yell "STAMPEDE!" and move out of the way. However, it may not be ideal for a bunch of young girls to be running around hotels, but usually nothing bad happens. Usually.
4. Have you seen (person's name)?
If a hotel can feel packed with just one or two teams imagine how many people are at the tournament. With so many people around at all times, it is easy to lose someone. Everyone has been lost at some point whether it be a guardian, coach, player, teammate, or sibling. I have heard of almost everyone getting lost, except the dog. They know how to stay.
5. Did you forget it?
The item forgotten could easily be something minor, like your after game footwear. Although, sometimes there could be something essential like a lacrosse stick or jersey that is missing. While the missing items very from family to family the conversations are usually the same resulting in a moment of "I didn't pack it! I though you packed it!" If it was truly important you could always go visit the vendors and buy a bucket hat to cheer yourself up.
