Five Thank You's To My Big Brothers At School

Being an incoming freshman in the fall is always nerve-racking. You don't know anyone until you move in or go to your first party the first weekend on campus. You find yourself with girl friends who become your best friends over night by getting "turnt" together (don't deny it you know its true). But the real friendship that is the best in college is the "big brother/little sister" best friend relationship.

For me, I dormed my freshman year, so I was away from my friends and family back home. I had a brother back home who was two years younger than me, even though he acted as if he was the older one. I made friends easily through my job on campus and on my floor, but I would never forget the night I met my big brothers at school.

I was at a frat party on campus the first weekend there. Then this guy came up to me trying to flirt and get my number and told him I wasn't interested and that I had a boyfriend already (which was 100 percent true). I was basically cornered by him. Then a friend of mine I went to high school with was at that party and came over to tell the creep to get lost. My friend was about to leave with his friends who were guys and a couple girls they met at the party and asked if I wanted to come along. So I did.

Over the next couple of weeks "those guys" became my big brothers. So here are the thank yous that should have been said a long time ago.

1. Thank you for getting food with me.

Whether it was getting pizza at the Rat or Bistro at 1 a.m., or going to the dinning hall with me, even though you all just came back from there. The McDonald's walks were the best, especially in the middle of November at 10 p.m. on a school night.

2. Thank you for making me laugh and being there for me.

There were moments where I would freak out especially for no reason and you were all there by my side. Remember the time when my chipped tooth that was fixed from years ago chipped again? Yeah I wish I didn't.

And for the times I did something stupid, you were all there to comfort me and make me feel better. I don't know how I would of been able to recoup from those times.

3. Thank you for doing laundry with me.

I had tons of clothes. They were heavy too. So thanks for helping me carry all of my clothes up and down the building.

4. Thank you for supporting me.

When I had decided to rush for a sorority, even though you joked about it with me, you were always supportive. You didn't judge like some of my other guy friends on campus.

5. Thank you for being you.

If it wasn't for you guys, I don't know where I would be right now. We did so much together. You all are some of the funniest, sweetest, and craziest guys I know and have ever met. Plus your ugly-faced snapchat selfies will forever go down in history. Some of the best memories I have from my first year are because of you guys and those are the memories I will never forget.

So this one's for you guys. I love you all so much. I can't wait to spend another couple years with you at school.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
