Being creative and making things on your own can be a very exciting thing! Summer is the perfect time to do some DIY projects, because you have a lot more free time! I have included instructions on how to do five simple and easy DIY projects right from home. They are super cheap and even more fun!

Jewelry Dish

The first DIY project is so simple. All you need is one flower pot base (you can find these at Walmart for like a buck), mod podge, paint color of your choice, paintbrush, and glitter, if you want.

1. Paint your flower pot base the color of your choosing. Mine looked like this when finished painting.

2. Let it dry

3. Pour mod podge over bottom of bowl or wherever you want the glitter to stick.

4. Pour glitter over the wet mod podge and dump remaining glitter from bowl onto a paper plate or napkin. (I did two coats of glitter for mine, you can do as many as you want!)

5. Allow to dry for a while and then set the glitter with another layer of mod podge. Do this with a very light hand and when I say a light hand, I mean it. Let the mod podge dry clear and you're done!

I use mine as a jewelry holder. You can use yours for anything and you could even make multiple circles and hang them on your wall and it could be a polka dot effect!

Key Frame

The second DIY project is simple as well! All you're going to need is a picture frame (I got mine from a local thrift shop for dirt cheap), hooks, paint, hot glue stick and hot glue gun, fake flowers, paint color of your choice.

In the picture above, I had already spray painted the frame the color I wanted, so the first step is to give your frame a base coat.

1. Paint your frame white, if needed

2. Let dry and then paint the frame the color of your choice. I spray painted mine gold.

3. Let dry and insert hooks into the frame on the top. You can buy the hooks from any hardware store or Walmart for fairly cheap!

4. Remove the fake flowers from the stem and hot glue them anywhere on the frame. You do not have to use flowers, but I thought they gave this frame a little something!

You can use this frame to hang keys on, or you can put necklaces and bracelets on the hooks.

Galaxy Canvas

The third DIY project is super fun! You will need a plain white canvas (the size is your choice), painters tape, assortment of paint colors, magic eraser or sponge that you can cut, knife, toothbrush. The colors that I chose to use were black, white, pink, dark purple, light purple, blue, green, and yellow.

1. Paint your whole canvas black, or the color you would like the background to be.

2. Let it dry and once dried use the painters tape to make a design on your canvas. I did a chevron/triangle design on mine.

3. Prepare your magic erasers by cutting them into pieces. You want as many pieces as you have paint colors.

4. Now all you have to do is start randomly putting your colors on the canvas. There is no rhyme or reason to this. I just started dabbing everywhere and sometimes doing a swiping motion. Do this with all of your colors all over the canvas, until you have a galaxy looking canvas.

5. Now take the end of a paintbrush and dip it into the white paint and start putting white circles on the canvas to represent stars. You can also pick out random stars and take the knife and spread the white paint out to make an actual star.

6. Wet the toothbrush and dip in paint color of your choice and hold it over the canvas and flick the bristles. This will make it look more like a galaxy. I thought this step really brought the canvas together. I used white and pink colors for this.

7. Allow to dry and then take the tape off.

Mason Jar Piggy Bank

The fourth DIY project is not only cute, but super useful. All you need is a mason jar, washi tape, and paint if you would like.

1. Paint the lid of the mason jar, if you would like. I spray painted mine gold.

2. Put the washi tape around the mason jar in whatever design you like. That's it. You're done.

I am using mine as a money saver. I put the dollar bills and quarters that I don't use in this jar, and I only open it to put the money in, not out. This will be my savings for a vacation next summer!

Crayon Canvas

The next DIY is super fun and you can be super creative with it! All you need is a blank canvas (any size that you want), hot glue gun, pack of crayons, mod podge, hair dryer, and a sharpie.

1. Hot glue the crayons to the top of the canvas. Make sure to line them up first in the way that you want before you glue them, so you can figure out how they should lay. I had half of the crayon on the canvas and the other half sticking off the top, too.

2. This step is optional. I decided I wanted a silhouette of my favorite Disney princess, so I printed out a black silhouette of Ariel from "The Little Mermaid" and I used mod podge to glue her on the canvas. FYI, a glue stick will not work. I tried and it failed.

3. I plugged in my hairdryer and ran it across the crayons until they started melting onto the canvas. WARNING: wear old clothes and make sure you are doing this on a surface that can get melted crayon on it. I went to my basement and laid out a trash bag on the floor and it seemed to work well. All the crayons just splattered onto the trash bag.

4. After the crayon was melted onto the canvas the way I wanted it to be, I let it dry and then I used a sharpie and wrote out a quote on the canvas. "Under The Sea," because who doesn't love that song from the movie!

There you have it. You have five new DIY projects to work on this summer, and trust me, once you start you will never want to stop! Let me know if you try any of these projects, and show me your end result. And if you have any DIY projects that you want me to try, just let me know!

Have a great day and remember, the world is but a canvas to our imagination!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
