Everyone has their "team." Whether you attended that college, had a family member attend that college, know someone who played for that college or just like that team for no reason, everyone has that team will that they will always cheer for. Just the mere mention of your team's name sparks a flame of excitement that gets your heart racing and your palms sweating. That's what we call passion. But there's a team in central Ohio seems to have fans scattered all across the nation. No matter where you go, there is always someone repping the scarlet and gray. Odds are you either hate them or love them, but in our case we're obsessed. We're not just average Buckeye fans, we've been rooting for them since the beginning of time. You might say we're crazy or even bandwagon fans, but we call ourselves something else: die hards. But how do you know if you're a die-hard OSU fan?
1. You cheer for them in every sport.
Whether people like it or not, everyone knows about Ohio State's successful football program and the stars its put in the NFL like Ezekiel Elliot, Eli Apple and Joey Bosa. But what about the other sports? Not to worry, you've got them all covered. Ohio State has top notch athletics such as gymnastics, volleyball, wrestling, rifle and women's tennis while being competitive in baseball, softball, basketball and swimming. Unlike bandwagoners, you care about their success in every sport no matter how big or small. This is what we calling be an actual fan. Every sport matters to us, not just the successful ones.
2. You own more scarlet and gray than imaginable.
T-shirts? Check. Hats? Check. Obnoxious beads? Check. Jerseys? Double check. You've got all the gear for every occasion imaginable. Who would you be if you weren't always representing your team? Not a very good fan, that's what. You're always ready to rep your team and it's a great way to find others who are obsessed with the team as you are. Your good luck t-shirt is a great conversation starter and is an even better way to bond over the Buckeyes.
3. You've been to at least one football game.
There isn't quite a football experience like one at the Shoe. You're nestled into a stadium that seats nearly 105,000 fans who can get the O-H-I-O chant started at any point. You're engulfed in a sea of scarlet and gray with others who are ready to throw hands with an opposing team fan who might be getting a little rowdy. An Ohio State Football game is something that's awe striking. Whether it's the tunnel run at the beginning of the game or singing along to Carmen Ohio at the end, it's an event that can give anyone chills and any die-hard fan has experienced this feeling at least once.
4. You hate That Team Up North.
There's no need for formal names here because odds are, you know what team we're talking about. That team that wears that ugly maize and blue uniform. You would rather die than ever cheer that team on, even if that means to root against the Big 10. Why would we ever cheer for the other team in the greatest rivalry in history? The answer is that any sane Buckeye fan would never do such a thing. Ever.
5. It's THE Ohio State University.
You've probably pissed a lot of people off when you corrected them by saying, "It's actually THE Ohio State University." You lose count of how many times people have said OSU's name incorrectly just to get you riled up. That's totally fine because you're not afraid to correct them and go on a small rant about it either. If someone's going to poke fun at your team, they might as well get it right.
Being a die-hard Buckeye fan is a way of life. It's supporting your team through the wins and the tough losses. It's standing up for them no matter how many people try to bring you down. It's always responding with, "I-O!" when some yells, "O-H!" It's always rooting for That Team Up North to lose matter who they're playing. It's bleeding scarlet and gray until the end.
