There are just some days that you simply do not want dining hall food. And if you’re like me, those days were more often than not. Here is a list of five restaurants that are some of the hidden gems in Athens. Still take advantage of Bolton’s cookies, though!

1. Taqueria del Sol

Taq del Sol is one of the best Mexican restaurants in the Classic City. If you love guacamole- this is the place to get it! Don’t worry, it’s the good kind of fat! Besides also having some amazing queso, this restaurant also has some of the best brisket tacos I’ve ever had. It’s relatively cheap, too, so definitely a must go.

2. Clocked!

This artsy diner-like restaurant is definitely a hidden gem downtown. Some must-eat meals: the hummus, the sweet potato fries, burgers, grilled cheese, and the milkshakes. The hummus is one of the most random things to order, but it is so good! It comes with homemade pita chips that are amazing! From burgers that range from beef to tuna, you can satisfy any craving at Clocked. The sweet potato fries are some of the best I’ve ever had, and the milkshakes are better than Bolton’s!

3. Marti’s At Midday

Marti’s always makes you feel at home. That’s probably because it looks like it’s in someone’s house! I always order the Matthew’s Favorite which is a turkey sandwich! The best part of every meal, however, is the pita chips that come with it. Marti’s is always packed and once you try the food, it’s very clear why!

4. The Grit

This is a vegetarian restaurant, but don’t let that stop you. The Grit, located on Prince Street, is a favorite among Athens locals. There is a unique vibe that kind of feels like you’re in California, but that just might be because they don’t serve meat. From brunch to dinner, you will come hungry and leave happy. Order either the golden bowl, the ginger salad, or the grilled cheese: those are definitely some favorites. This is one of the best stops for a healthy bite!

5. Mama’s Boy

“You know I like my chicken fried” … I’m pretty sure Mama Boy’s chicken biscuit was Zac Brown Band’s inspiration for writing that song. It’s absolutely incredible. Last time that I went to Mama’s Boy, my sister and I ordered the chicken biscuit and the Cook’s Trail Mix Granola. Both did not disappoint. The Cinnamon Roll is out of this world and I love the fact that you can order the French Toast as a half order. And it’s not your average French Toast, it’s Georgia Peach French Toast! What a perfect way to welcome you to Athens! This is the place if you love Strawberry Lemonade! It’s served in a mason jar and it’s absolutely phenomenal. They have an extensive list of coffees and teas as well! If you’re the type of person who loves a mimosa with brunch, drink before. Mama’s Boy doesn’t serve alcohol, but that should not be a deterrent. It’s the best brunch in Athens, which is obvious with the line out the door on any given day. I still consider myself new to these Southern Brunch things, but Mama’s Boy has got me hooked.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
