5 Reasons Your Best Friend Is Your Best Friend
Mackenzie Webb

I don't know about you, but I could go on and on about how amazing and completely irreplaceable my best friend is. I think she is one of the greatest people to be put on this earth and I am so blessed that I have her in my life for the ups, downs, and arounds. If you're like me, then you probably feel the same way about your best friend, and if you don't feel the same, then let me give you some reasons why my best friend is my best friend.

1. They are just like you in every way, but at the same time are so opposite from you that you just compliment each other like peanut butter and jelly.

Even though you may think differently about the similarity of you both, I promise you couldn't be best friends if there wasn't some sort of "twin-ness" between y'all. The commonality helps you both to laugh at the same things, cry together, and be able to finish each others' sentences (or something along those lines).

2. When you're sad, they know just the right remedy to cheer you up.

Although this may be an easy thing for anyone to do, and not just your best friend, they know just that one thing that is the perfect thing to make you smile. In fact, that person probably knows what makes you happy better than you know what makes you happy. Therefore, you can always count on them for a smile when you're sad, or a hug when you cry.

3. They're the ones who laugh at EVERY joke, even when they're not funny or you've told them a hundred times.

Making jokes and sharing them is one of the qualities I like about myself. That said, the jokes are not always funny, or they might get old after being told the 53rd time. Even though this may be true, your best friend is the person that will be cry/laughing behind you as you share that joke to any and all around you whether they like it or not. And don't worry if they can't laugh with you at your jokes, then they'll just laugh at you. So either way, they're laughing, which is your purpose, right?

4. You plan out the future with them as if they were going to be your spouse.

Okay, it could actually be that your spouse is your best friend, but if not, then no worries, because we all do it. You continuously talk about where you both might live and with what kind pets, and how you'll find cute places to eat nearby. You plan out your wedding together (but not in the Bride Wars messy kind of way), and each is promised the role of Maid of Honor (of course).

5. You know that person better than anybody else, and you would never do anything to jeopardize your friendship.

I could not do life without my best friend right there beside me. Each person's best friend is your other half, whether you think so or not. You may fight like sisters, or cry like children, but most importantly, you make a bond which could never be replaced. That person is so specially crafted to fit you and for you to fit them, and therefore when you find that person, cherish them, love them, and never let them go, because they are precious.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
