There are too many negative stigmas associated with Greek life. Yes, there are some chapters that aren't the best at defeating stereotypes, but as a whole, Greek life is a life-changing experience that will push you down a positive path of happiness and success.
As the new school year soon approaches and recruitment is near, I am reminded of five important reasons to go Greek.
1. You meet your forever friends, future bridesmaids and college roommates.
Sororities have a way of leading you to people that you otherwise may not have had the pleasure to know. You come from all different places and backgrounds but you will be bonded together for the rest of your lives. After all, it's not just four years, it's forever.
2. You will always have a dozen plus people to support you.
It is so much more than taking cute pictures and crafting together. Your sisters become your counselors, the best listeners and your never-failing support system. No matter what is going on in your life, you can count on your sisters to help you through it.
3. You'll always have a study buddy.

Being on a small campus and being a part of a large chapter almost guarantees that you will have at least one sister in each of your classes. This means you have a permanent study buddy to compare notes, make study guides, check research papers and to cry with you during your finals. What a great way to get to know somebody!
4. You can connect with sisters all over the country.
The coolest thing is when you're travelling out of state or out of the country and somebody says, "You're a Kappa?" or, "I am in that sorority, too!" Then you feel this bond with a person you have never met and will probably never see again. You'd be surprised how many sisters you have and how it can help you with your future (make sure to put that on your resume).
5. You'll always feel like you belong.
College is hard. A sorority is more than just a house, it's a home. It's a family. When you aren't fitting it with others, when you feel alone, you always have a place to run to and people who will greet you with loving arms.
We support each other, we push each other physically, mentally and emotionally to be better and realize our full potential. They are the family you get to choose and who will never abandon you. They're your sisters and best friends for the rest of your life. Do yourself a favor and discover the bond of Greek life. I am positive that you won't regret it.
