When I was nine years old and my little brother was seven, my parents sat us down & gave us the news that we were going to have another sibling on the way. Already having one brother, I remember praying every single day that my new sibling would be a sister. I even was picking out names for her, that's how excited I was at the thought of finally having a sister. After a few months went by, the big day finally came! I was going to find out if my new sibling was going to be a girl, which I was absolutely positive it was going to be. Well, I was sadly mistaken. While everyone else in the room was excited & smiling at the thought of my new baby brother being a boy, I was devastated. Little did I know that my only two siblings both being boys was a blessing in disguise. The thought of having a sister now literally just gives me a headache to think about, starting with...
1. Having to share a room with her.
When my parents brought my newborn brother home, we only had three bedrooms. Which means that my screaming, crying, pooping every hour newborn brother had to share a room with somebody. I distinctly remember my seven year old brother rubbing it in my face that he was going to have a brother and I wasn't going to have a sister. Well, I hope those restless nights were worth getting your brother that you always wanted. ;)
2. Having someone steal my clothes.
If my brother ended up being a girl, there is a high chance that when my "sister" grew up she would want to borrow my clothes. Any girl with a sister knows that sisters don't really borrow, they just kind of take without asking. I have personally witnessed arguments between sisters that turned into physical fights over a shirt, and you better believe I would be the same way if someone took my clothes without asking, especially my sister.
3. Having someone follow me everywhere I go.
Once my brother was around the age of five, he wanted to follow my other brother who was 13 everywhere he went. My brother could not leave the house without feeling guilty he wasn't taking him along. My little brother was also at that age where if he was out with my brother and saw him do something wrong, the first thing he did when he came home was told my mom everything that happened. Thank God I didn't have a sister that got me in trouble every time I went out with her.
4. Having a crush on the same boy my sister likes.
While this doesn't apply to my youngest brother, this could've been applicable to my brother who is only a year and a half younger than me had he been born a girl. I always thought it was impossible for two sisters to go after the same guy, but over the years I have found it to be very possible. Never would I ever want to feel like I was in a competition for a guy, especially with my own sister. I find it extremely disturbing how often this happens with teenage sisters. Thankfully I never have to worry about that happening.
5. Having to deal with drama that sisters deal with every day.
From the stealing of clothes, to boy drama, to having to a share a room, to just getting sick of each other...sisters fight A LOT, especially in their teenage years. I might have fought with my brother when I was little, but now that we are older we get along just fine, & we did even in our teenage years. Being the only girl of the siblings makes it drama-free, and makes me so happy I don't have to ever worry about dealing with a sister.
Now I am definitely not trying to bash anybody's relationship with their sister. If you're close with your sister and absolutely love having one, that's awesome! However, thinking about all the downsides of having a sister, I think it's safe to say that having a sister is just not for everyone, including myself.
