5 Reasons Why I'm Single

If you are single then I'm sure you have been asked, "So, are you dating anyone?" This question is relatives and family friends' go to question after they ask about school. They mean well, but it can get a little awkward if you say no because they tend to follow with "why not?" I'm always taken aback when asked this because I never know how to respond. Why was I single? Why am I still single? These questions come to mind, and the next thing you know I'm questioning my entire life.

Now, there is nothing wrong with being single. However, the world seems to be fixated on the belief that everyone needs to be in a relationship, and if you aren't then something must be wrong. So, I sat down one day (well right now as I'm writing this) and made a list of reasons why I am single.

1. Dating isn't the same

With society using the phrase Netflix and chill more times than it is asking want to get dinner tonight, the dating world has completely changed. It has become actually quite difficult to find a guy who would like to sit down and get to know each other rather than just hook up. Dating has its complications of which I don't have time for.

2. I'm Hella Busy!

Speaking of time, I always seem to be running out of it. Being a full time student with two jobs plus extracurricular activities, I just don't see how a boyfriend would fit in. Because unlike the song, I get tired; super tired. Honestly, at the end of the day, all I want to do is crawl into bed and sleep (but not before three hours of homework). If I were to meet a guy let alone actually date him, he would have to be in one of my classes or work with me because that would literally be the only way we could spend time together. Although, education probably wasn't the best major to choose if I wanted to pick up guys (I knew I should have did a year as an engineering major).

3. Timing

Okay, it's not like I haven't met a single guy, but my timing always seemed to be off. Whether it was that the guy was a little too young or that he wanted to be a priest, I never really seemed to have the right timing. Apparently, time is never on my side.

4. I'm pretty good at being single

Being single kind of becomes a habit after awhile. I get in that routine of school and work, and the rare chance that I have entire weekend off, I use a bulk of that watching movies and hanging out with friends. I've become accustomed in doing things on my own, and I've learned how to be alone without being lonely.

5. I don't NEED a man

See here's the thing, many people believe that we NEED a relationship. I don't need a boyfriend. I have a job therefore I have money. I have a truck therefore I can drive myself to the store to buy the things I need. Wants and needs are two completely different things, however, people always seem to get them mixed up. I can handle my own. Do I want a relationship? Sure, but that will come. I first need to get my life situated and that means graduating and getting my degree. Now, I am not against finding a guy who will love me for me and all that jazz, but I am also not desperate and willing to settle. I have a few standards, which when you look at it isn't a long list, but I just haven't met a guy who seems to fit. One day, I will find him out there, and whether it is before I graduate or after, I will embrace it and be the best girlfriend the boy has ever had. But until then, I'm chilling.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
