Okay, a lot of students complain about the hard times college brings. All the loads of work and evil professors. All the unnecessary assignments and boring general education courses. But honestly, we truly love it. Sometimes we out weigh the bad more than the good when it's literally the opposite. Ask any college student why they stay in college and they will give you at least one of these reasons I've compiled!
1. Connections. Connections. Connections!
Your chances of landing THE job is heightened by 110 percent if you know someone. Sure you have all the credentials that qualify you for this job and then some. But so do the 15 other people who want that same job. The hiring employer will more than likely hire Suzy because she knows Bob, the project manager, and he said she's really trustworthy. These connections include professors, they've been through a lot and more than likely know a lot of people in the field. A connection can be Jane in your PoliSci class, who just got an internship at the same place you really want to intern. BOOM! Connection! It's college, everyone is a connection. The more you know, the better.
2. The stairs to adulthood.
College begins the path of how to manage your life on your own. Making decisions you'd normally look to your parents for. Waiting until they came home with the food. In college, you have your professors and your peers to provide you with their experiences. Everyone's story is different and the more people who can help and guide you on this transition in your life, the better. After your second year you may have already moved off campus or you're starting to look into other housing options off campus. Beginning the process of really paying for bills. But you're ready because the first two years you've learned how to manage your own money and say no to those $50 shoes you saw yesterday.
3. Exploration and discovery.
It's college, you get to study your interests. This includes that new Harry Potter class that counts as a credit. You get to discover the things you'd never known about. Like that new taco place you and your friends just found while cruising the area. College is a source of useful and non-useful knowledge. You never would've joined the comic book club and learned more about your favorite hobby if you hadn't gone to college . Also, businesses know that college is a source of eager to learn and discover students, so often businesses will come to campus seeking you! College = Opportunities!
4. Memories!
Okay this is an obvious one. Every moment in college will bring outstanding memories! You meet life long friends, there is always time to have fun, and sometimes you can't get them anywhere else. Enough said.
5. Know yourself, know you worth.
Yes, I just quoted Drake. But you really find out who you are through this journey! I mean I learned that I like to make new friends and talk to people (on most days) and I feel like college has taught me how to do that. I know how to apply that in any situation. You learn what's important to you and what you value most. What kind of people you like and don't. What you like to dedicate your time most to and what you find to be a waste of time. The moment you think you know yourself you're able to know your worth and what it's worth. This discovery brings confidence.
I know, I know, this all sounds cheesy but its true! I love college and those who stick through it love it too! But roll your eyes to those who say college isn't worth it and will become obsolete. Okay, we students do bash it a lot and talk about the ridiculousness of some of it but truly this is why we stay. College is worth it and don't let anyone say anything different. Though everyone doesn't need it, it's NEVER not the way.
