5 Reasons To Attend College In New York City
Mary Kate Flock

Now that I have finished off my first year as a college student, I can honestly say that making the decision to go to college in New York City was the smartest decision I have ever made. New York is the land of opportunity, the city that never sleeps and is one of the most incredible places on Earth. As a “New Yorker” for nine months out of the year now, I can be honest in saying that there are so many reasons that the city is one of the best places to attend college.

1. You’ll never get bored.

New York has something for everyone. Whether it be walking through Central Park, touring the Metropolitan Museum of Art, visiting the Brooklyn Bridge, shopping on Fifth Avenue, seeing a show, or looking for the best coffee shop, there is always something to do. The city is large and has such diversity in its components that you can do something different every single day if that’s what your heart desires.

2. It’s easy to network.

As a college student, it's important to start networking for jobs that you're going to want in the future. New York is the place to search for internships, and it's incredibly easy to meet up with professionals for coffee at any time due to the fact Manhattan is a mecca for business - we are the future of business in America. Anyone you meet on the streets is someone who could help you land a job in the future.

3. The city truly never does sleep.

There is something to do at every single hour in the city. If you want to be outside of your dorm and away from school the entire day, it is very easy to keep yourself occupied. New York has great restaurants, culture and nightlife that can be experienced and definitely taken advantage of because of the fact that at any given hour there will be people around.

4. There are so many food options.

I got sick of the dining hall food very quickly at my university and I don't know what I would’ve done if I wasn’t living in the city -- I would’ve been stuck in the dining hall. You can easily run to Duane Reade and restock your dorm room snacks, there are restaurants on every corner, Seamless is almost too easy to order -- the options of what to eat are never ending.

5. The location.

New York City is a place that people want to visit. Your family and friends will want to visit you because of the city - they can go explore and see you as much (or as little) as they want to. Going to school in the city also means that JFK and Newark airports are not too far away, which makes moving into these universities easy if you are traveling from a far distance. In addition, trains from all across the country come into Grand Central Station and Pennsylvania Station, so if the distance you're traveling isn’t in need of an airplane travel, it's still easy. In addition, as a New York City student you can avoid all the traffic you want and you can easily visit the boroughs if you use the subway. The opportunities in these universities are endless because of where they are located. New York is the best place to be.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
