5 Reasons You Should Call The "Alt-Right" What They Really Are: Neo-Nazis
Raw Story

Recently, new terminology has surfaced on the Internet for radical white nationalism. The "Alt-Right" are the newly revitalized persona of white supremacists, now portraying themselves as upstanding revolutionaries. Unfortunately, I have seen many people and even news outlets falling for this facade, so to make sure we're on the same page, here are five reasons that you should call them what they really are: neo-Nazis.

5. The NPI Stands for Racial Science Made Mainstream by Nazi-Germany

One of the main players behind the Alt-Right movement is the National Policy Institute, a think tank, classified by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), as well as the Anti-Defamation League, as a white supremacist organization. Its president, Richard Spencer, is credited by the SPLC as well, as being as the one who coined the term "Alt-Right" in the first place. Remember that name, because I'm coming back to him later.

NPI stands not only for overturning Brown v. the Board of Education, the Supreme Court Case which made segregation illegal, but they have published numerous "research" articles in favor of Hitler's discredited policy of racial science. If you aren't familiar with this specific Nazi policy, allow me to get you up to speed. Racial science was an unfounded belief used back in the day to "prove" that people of color and Jewish people were genetically inferior to white people. Racial science by no means began with Hitler, but it was popularized and made law under his regime. It also played a heavy role in the causes that lead to not only the Holocaust, but also the Rwandan genocide.

4. NPI Keynote Speaker Praises Hitler -- Literally

At a recent NPI conference held in celebration of the results of the recent election, the list of headline speakers included former reality TV star Tila Tequila, who after her debut as a television star and model, began extensive blog posts sympathizing with Hitler.

In one from 2013, she says about Hitler, "Here is a man who was not a coward, stood up for his country in a DESPERATE TIME OF NEED (unlike all of our cowardly leaders), and yet not only did he try his best to help his country and people get out of what was a time of depression, economic collapse, high unemployment, amongst many other things… he lost the war AND was painted out to be a monster after his death. This is what breaks my heart. "

If that wasn't enough, earlier this year, she went on a Twitter tirade against black people, Jews, and gay people in a lengthy well wishing to the "true king" Hitler on his birthday. One post in this series reads, "Using necromancy to bring back my boo Hitler back to life so her can really gas I mean... say hello to everyone :)". She was also photographed at the NPI conference with two men performing the Nazi salute, which she captioned "Seig Heil!"

Tila Tequila was just banned from Twitter for spreading hate speech.

3. Alt-Right's Own Members Think Even This Isn't Far Enough

Okay, I went onto some actually unfathomably evil websites for this, so click hyperlinks with extreme caution.

Now, Tila Tequila is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to how deep the hatred in these people go. She's merely one of the most public representations of it. This is because they may be racist, ableists, anti-Semitic and much, much more, but they aren't blind to the fact that Nazism is not socially acceptable, so they have to hide behind anonymous postings on reddit, for the same reasons that the KKK wear hoods.

However, given recent events, they are becoming much bolder, as evidenced by this individual, who says that the Alt-Right isn't going far enough and that he intends to bring it back to the root of their cause, turning the Alt-Right into the "Alt-Reich." Evidently, this guy thinks this whole, tricking people into thinking alt-righters aren't terrible, is disingenuous, and takes away from what should be the focus: exposing Jews, persecuting homosexuality, and putting an end to a "white genocide" that is supposedly going on as we speak.

He even admits in the same piece that the Alt-Right is trying to bait people into supporting this ideology: "Are the leaders of the Alt Right sincerely trying to reach more people and bring them to our cause through their weak campaign to make themselves seem acceptable in the eyes of our enemies?"

2. Recent Alt-Right Conferences Were Filled With Nazi Salutes And Terminology

In addition to Tila Tequila, the recent NPI conference where the "Sieg Heil!" salute was photographed, Richard Spencer also spoke to the audience that had gathered for 12 hours of lectures. At the end of the his speech, which you can watch in its disgusting entirety here, Spencer yells "Heil Trump! Heil our people! Heil victory!" and the audience of over 200 shout it back, with several Nazi salutes included. "Heil victory," by the way, is the English translation of the Nazi exhortation "Sieg Heil!"

Additionally, in the conference's speeches, several instances of speakers spoke in German as to quote directly from Nazi propaganda. Using words such as "Lugenpresse" a Nazi term meaning "lying press" and using the title of the most famous Nazi propaganda film, "A Victory of Will" to refer to Donald Trump's election, Spencer proclaimed that in the most recent generation, America became controlled by non-White people. However, he continued, America is "our creation, it is our inheritance, and it belongs to us." Us, being the white race, which he said was, "a race that travels forever on an upward path. [...] To be white is to be a creator, an explorer, a conqueror."

1. Richard Spencer Denounced by U.S. Holocaust Museum

Two days following the NPI conference quoted extensively above, the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) released the following statement:

I am a non-Jewish white person, so I think it's of the utmost importance to know that I did not pull this comparison of the Alt-Right to the Nazi party out of nowhere. I have nothing to lose by writing this, but the USHMM is an organization founded by Holocaust survivors to ensure that the atrocities of genocide are not forgotten, and that future atrocities can be avoided. They have more reason than anyone to speak the truth.

And even this, members of the Alt-Right managed to turn into a statement of anti-Semitic defamation, as one writer said, "The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is obviously not just a museum, but has a mission of political propaganda in service to specifically Jewish interests."

Interesting, but I think I've heard a "Jews control politics through propaganda" statement before, and by now I think you probably don't need me to tell you that the conspiracy theory of Jewish controlled media, business, world trade, and the world in general, was one of the biggest motivators for the Holocaust, as outlined in Mein Kampf.

To close, I want to share with you a quote by Elie Wiesel, one of the Holocaust survivors who helped the USHMM come into existence. I hope now that you have learned about the roots of this dangerous movement, that these wise words will move you to helping stop the people who spread hateful ideologies: "I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.”

We always said that if only we had known what Hitler would do, we could stop him. Except there were warning signs, and we said he was just kidding about all that stuff he said. Now, there are here's your chance to not make the same mistake again. If you want to ensure that the Alt-Right doesn't get the chance to show us whether they were kidding or not, start by cutting the crap and calling them Neo-Nazis. Make them unable to hide from their connection to a horrible time in history, so that the rest of us aren't forced to repeat it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
