5 Reasons Your Relationship With Yourself Is So Important

As you grow as a human being, the only way to conquer life is starting off by loving yourself. You are the only guaranteed person who will always be there, so why not be your No. 1 fan? Once you truly love yourself and accept your flaws, life becomes a little more clear.

1. Your relationship with yourself sets the tone for every other relationship you have.

Once you completely come to terms with who you are as a person, you can see what you need from others. Having healthy relationships in your life is crucial. Once you rid the negativity from yourself, you may "weed" out the negative people in your life.

2. You can truly find love.

When you love yourself, you know how to properly love someone else. People can tell when someone is comfortable with who they are. Confidence gleams off of people like a crystal aura. If you find someone special, and they see that you work on yourself, they will feel assured that you will always be willing to work on the relationship.

3. Life becomes more peaceful.

Everyone has flaws. No one is perfect. Accepting that allows you to be perfectly imperfect, which is a beautiful thing. If you find something that you do not like about yourself that can be changed, you work on it, improve it and grow as a person. That, my friend, is called "self-improvement," and it is a glorious thing. Although, there are some things that you will find that you cannot change. Once you accept that they cannot be fixed and still love yourself makes you an even more admirable person. Stupid, little things that you would constantly dwell on no longer have control over you. You find peace from within.

4. You stop comparing yourself to others.

Social media is a constant reminder of what everyone else looks like and what everyone else is doing. In our society today, we constantly compare ourselves to others. "Oh, they have a better car than me." "Look, they have a boyfriend and a good job. I'm just stuck single and in school."

Stop. No one will ever be like you. You are one of a kind. Who cares what everyone else is doing? Own who you are! We are always a work in process and maybe some people finished up a little sooner than you. That doesn't mean you are stuck; goals take time to reach. Don't stop rooting for yourself; you're your biggest cheerleader. When you have a good relationship with yourself, you stop comparing yourself to others.

5. You control your happiness.

Happiness is an emotion only you, yourself can take charge of. When we aren't comfortable with who we are, we let others control how we feel. This is very unhealthy. When you love yourself, you take charge of your happiness. It becomes apparent that it's not worth letting anyone ruin your day. Sometimes you will still feel down and out, but you realize you can pick your head up and face the world.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
